Other than looking like you were too lazy to remove the braid, is there any technical reason not to paint the ground braid inside of a cabinet ?  Sometimes ( and this is one of them ), I just don't want to remove the braid.  My intuition tells me there should be no problem, but just wondering if the paint somehow interferes with the function of the braid.

Anybody ?   Anybody ??

As long as all the bonding points are free of paint it shouldn't matter.

as long as the contact points are making good contact, it doesn't matter if you paint it.

A regular industrial hand stapler or hammer stapler with 3/8" or 1/2" staples will do fine...

Retiring soon...

Have you considered that if you paint it and paint comes off because it's braided it could look bad in the future.  Just a thought.

Also, you need very quick drying paint and spray in light coats. Wet paint could easily drip between contact points causing undue grief.

If you use regular paint it will not interfere with the braid at all and grounding will remain intact. Paint safely!

From an electricians point of view. Painting it has no affect whatsoever. If your worried about the contact points, remove them after painting, clean with emery cloth or dip in thinners to remove any residual paint and fasten contact points again. Cleaning contact points is a good idea none the less because of corrosion and oxidation that occurs over time. You will be left with a near 100% ground contact when done, which as Martha would say " Is a good thing"

Thanks for advice everyone.  I've decided to paint over the ground braid and then line the entire cab and backbox with Reynold's aluminum foil...shiny side up of course.  I figure if I use lots of scotch tape it should hold nicely.
