Other than looking like you were too lazy to remove the braid, is there any technical reason not to paint the ground braid inside of a cabinet ? Sometimes ( and this is one of them ), I just don't want to remove the braid. My intuition tells me there should be no problem, but just wondering if the paint somehow interferes with the function of the braid.

From an electricians point of view. Painting it has no affect whatsoever. If your worried about the contact points, remove them after painting, clean with emery cloth or dip in thinners to remove any residual paint and fasten contact points again. Cleaning contact points is a good idea none the less because of corrosion and oxidation that occurs over time. You will be left with a near 100% ground contact when done, which as Martha would say " Is a good thing"

Thanks for advice everyone. I've decided to paint over the ground braid and then line the entire cab and backbox with Reynold's aluminum foil...shiny side up of course. I figure if I use lots of scotch tape it should hold nicely.
