Got a call from my pinball pusher (lol), saying that there's a Freddy: A Nightmare on Elm Street game in town that's available depending on playtest, inspection and whatnot. I have an extensive collection of horror related pieces, large scale and otherwise (including Tales from the Crypt and Elvira and the Party Monsters), so this pin would certainly fit the theme, but is it as good as I remember?

Checked out some you-tube vids after he called me about it and dropping quarters into this unit was certainly something I was known to do (remember that claw save?), but is it worth owning as a gaming piece and not just a show piece? I'm aware of the issues with the game through research over the past few years since I've always wanted it (or thought I did), but now that it could be in my house soon I'm starting to wonder if it's nostalgia driven or if in fact it was a decent game.

Thoughts?

I'm not a Williams Bally fanboy but I think i know good pinball and that most of my favourite games were from their shop, like CFTBL and Elivra. Trying to keep an open mind on Gottlieb though since i've been so pleased with Tales from the Crypt and believe as a Data East title it doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I've always wanted to spend some time on this machine and it looks interesting but I've never seen one in working shape anywhere before.

I say if the price is reasonable go for it, if you don't like it you can always sell it.

Appreciate the input. Collection wise it's obviously a good fit, but without playing the game it's hard to remember the nuances of the machine. Having said that, maybe I'll try the visual pinball version if I can track one down and see if that jogs my memory.

You would be buying it for the theme/voice clips only.

The game play is really pretty crappy.

Agreed. I passed on the purchase. For a number of reasons, some of which are outlined here and others. Seems to be no shortage of the units though, on Kijiji Calgary at this moment there are 3 Nightmare pins available, hard to believe, likely trying to cash in on the remake attention. Thanks for the advice all as I passed on it one of my dream machines came available so I lept on it.

If there is 3 make some lowball offers, it might work, and have one cheap. The games get booring quickly soud beside fredy's voice that is good there is a weird and very anoying sound during a game that realy help accelrate the booriness of the game. But if you get it under 1K go for it at that price range it would be a not so bad game a "C list" I should say.
