I was just thinking about this a while back and thought it would make a nice discussion... What are pins with the greatest background sound/music? Here are some of my favorites, and comments on them:
In Solid state pins:
Bally X's and O's. An OK pin... nice easy player... but that background sound is simple, yet powerful! As weird as this may sound, to me, it has a "2001-monolithic" feel to it!!! The story behind this one is that I remember a meeting at JVegas's place, where there was one, but it was set on chime sound. Got annoying after a while. I was playing it with JD3 and decided to change the dipswitch settings to put it on electronic sounds... WHOA!!!! what a difference!!! All of a sudden, the pin that no one paid attention to was getting some looks! ... JD3 bought it that night!!!
Black Hole ... ESPECIALLY the sound during multiball! Simple yet cool!
In System 11-era pins:
Grand Lizard ... love the banging ritual drum sound! Gives it an eerie feel!
Swords of Fury ... Simply the best!!! Sounds like a John-Carpenter-movie theme!!!
Heavy Metal Meltdown ... sue me... I am corny and I like it! Ask Mikeman. I nearly drove him nuts cranking it up at Jim's place!!!
In DMD pins:
My experience here is limited... but I did like the following:
TOTAN ... simply stunning sound all around. Just a treat to listen to AND watch!
for me only thing i can think of now, is sys 11 High Speed this was the game I was looking for originally when i did my basement over. I guess I played it so much when I was younger it was drilled into my head that simple little tune. that and I enjoy Whirl Wind sounds as well.
Say 'yes' to classic Sterns. Complete MAACA-Wacko!

Pinbot's sound is the high point of that game. It's all downhill from there.
Check out the sound for TX-Sector and RoboWar in PinMame. Very catchy. The RoboWar music is so intense it really makes me want that machine.
I also really like the music from Back to the Future. It changes depending on how many balls you have locked from one Huey Lewis tune to the next. Huey rocks.
Guns N' Roses ! Of course the music is not original... but it still does it for me, love it !
I will have to go with High Speed as well, THIS IS IT ! Loved that game when i was younger, it was THE game back then. Played it at JD's place last week and took me 3 days to get the sounds/music out of my head again
Currently owning: -Â Solar Fire, Medusa, Flash Gordon, (Centaur), No Fear ------------------
Sys. 11. Black Knight 2000. I'm not a fan of the game, but the music is simply awesome!
WPC - Shadow has one hell of a catchy tune. I also really like GetAway. The Grunge (?) by ZZ Top, I cann't help but get into that. I definately want another GetAway some day. Simple and fun.
Stern - simply love LOTR. Excellent music on all fronts and in all modes. True to the movie.
Worst music on an otherwise great pin: White Water. What the hell were they thinking? Crappy is being kind. It sounds better once you start multiball or Big Foot Hotfoot, but the reg. tune is so sad.
HS2: Getaway - ZZ Top - La Grange, awesome song, perfect match, gets you going everytime and now everytime I hear the song elsewhere I want to play pinball SOF: 'nuff said Jackbot: This music is great, clear, good mix, nice jazzy tune that fits the feel of the game and the game over music is pretty nice too DE Time Machine: This one has a nice variation of music to go with all the different eras that you play in ( and the real chimes in the cab for the 50's era is just classic )

Got to play this one the other day at The Church of the Silverball. I enjoyed it.
- Black Knight 2000 - Judge Dredd - The Shadow - KORNified Centaur (added) - OOPS!!! Completely forgot about CFTBL !!!
Getaway is cool, but not in the same category as my 'Top 5'...
Mes deux cennes, Frosken
Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 ) Flipper Football, The Shadow
Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 ) City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500, Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot, Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest
Not that i am a huge fan of Data East games, but Lethal Weapon 3 was kinda cool for background music. I think it had 3 choices one was a ZZ top song and another was C&C Music Factory (Everybody dance now) not sure on the 3rd.
