Working on a Sounds Deluxe PCB, and I need a bit of direction. Power the game up (or the PCB on the bench) and I get ZERO flashes from the LED.
I've checked the 14V and 5V all over the PCB and it's getting everywhere it's supposed to be. I'm wondering what I should check next, as the marvin guides don't really go too in depth on repair of the 6803 series games.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks, Doug

correct me if I'm wrong but if you don't get the 1st flash, wouldn't it means the U11 rom is bad ?!
Sounds Deluxe 68000 Board LED Tests.
* 1st flash - Validate U11 program ROM. * 2nd flash - Validate U12 program ROM. * 3rd flash - Validate U13 program ROM. * 4th flash - Validate U14 program ROM. * 5th flash - Check RAM U9,U10. * 6th flash - Check PIA U7.

This is the first time I've ever had to troubleshoot a 6803, so I wasn't sure if I should see something from the LED to indicate it was at least saying hello. (I was thinking the same thing as you Phil, but I wanted to run it by anyone that may have worked on one of these to verify) I'll D/L the sound ROMs and burn a new set. I'll get quite the chuckle if that's all it's gonna take! Thanks! D |

Fixed the PCB tonight! Thought I'd post this to the board for future reference.... I decided to pull the U11 ROM and throw it in my burner for verification and it came back ok. So before I went ahead and burned a new one for the hell of it, I decided to put the PCB on my bench and get the o-scope out. After probing for the 8Mhz clock signal, it was present @ the crystal, as well as pin 3 of the 74LS74AN @ U2, but there was nothing on the 68000 CPU clock (pin 15). Turns out there was no clock output on pin 5 of the 74LS74AN, so I replaced it and the PCB now passes all the self tests. Thanks, D. |
