I have a line on a Dolly Parton. Cosmetically its in not so good shape. That's all I know, but before I start bugging for photos, etc, what kinda of price should I be willing to pay? Seems like a prime candidate for Lost Vegas.
Secondly, with 2 young girls in the house, where do you hide it (once its converted to Lost Vegas - (for those who have been in the dark - http://www.classicplayfields.com/lostvegas.html )?

Thankx for the lost vegas link . I may get myself one as a new year ' s present and keep it boxed until the kids ' ll be growned up and gone of the house ...

His price is $600 - he's about 6 hours from Ottawa (New Hampshire) and I have no photos yet - I'm told its in average-shape. I might hold out for a closer DP, and am still in the process of seeing if he has other games of interest. Some games he's willing to sell are: Gottlieb Spirit of 76 Williiams Hot Line Captain Fantastic Gottlieb Domino Williams Apollo Jive Time, Amigo, ...
I can get the "Lost Vegas" past the wife, but she doesn't want another "old, slow game" so its hard to justify a 12hour round trip for a dolly parton. I'd like a Captain Fantastic and Apollo looks cool
Grab the Captain. Fun game. If you like, bring your wife and play Captain Fantastic at my place. She can say yes or no based on the gameplay. It's up and running. Still has a couple of issues, but you can certainly get a feel for the game.
Cann't believe she has ok'd a Lost Vegas. You showed her the comic?

I'm naive, and sometimes slow, but not TOTALLY stupid.
(I still have the usual hobby issues to resolve - cash, space, time, ...).
Anyone ever play dolly? Is it any good? I like drops which it is lacking...(in-lines aren't as much fun IMHO) ...I like the idea of ordering the kit regardless of whether I find a dolly...

It doesn't NEED to be a Dolly doner game, but LV will use all of the PF mechs from DP. That being said, DP has a set of inline drop targets which will be required for LV, so it makes sense to use a DP as the doner.
Is there a 'master list' of the parts needed? What if these parts are just sourced and briguy just builds brand new cabs based on a template? Too much trouble?

In theory you could do this, but it's a LOT more work than just using the parts off a DP for the convesion. Not sure if you'd want to make a PF wire harness from scratch, or try making one up out of another game other than dolly. Me personally I would make one from scratch before I tried to make a non DP harness work, but that would be a last resort option.
And then the issue of finding the in-line drops you'd need for the LV PF would be another hurdle.
Call me pessimistic, but it blows my mind that people are buying up DP's to convert to a theme that hasn't even seen the light of day yet.
It seems like the same deal as that guy in Austrailia that sold a 1000 machines and built like 1.
I don't care... either way, I win. If they do, I get a kit. If they don't, I get Dolly running, and find a backglass for peanuts due to the ones that will be available, and my playfield is in great shape. I actually like the Dolly pin. Simple, but that in-line target shot can be tricky and drain your ball easily.

Dolly is a decent $300 game. Now that they are going for $600 and more, hmmmm....not so sure. I had one back in the day. Paid $300, sold it for about the same.
