So I just got back from a wild and fun night of pinball with the Montreal pinball league and what a blast it was. Medvet and I respectfully represented our cities and it was definitely worth attending. These guys had me laughing the whole night and we talked pins, pins and more pins! Medvet and I even talked shop which was good. Language was never an issue. What more could you ask for?
Tournament details I will leave for Sparky to describe but these guys are all about fun and I loved it. I enjoyed playing Mr. Hide's collection which includes such games as Grand Lizard which I think is my new favourite game. If you have not tried it before, give it a shot, you will be pleased. Playing Jungle Queen was a joy but tough with the steep slope. No such thing as a slow EM here. Playfield looked incredible, first one I have seen this nice. Then I had the chance to play Devil's Dare & Spirit - games you don't see too often which is why this night was so appealing. I also had the chance to see the Black Knight with the new CPR playfield and the machine looks brand spankin' new!
Well it is late and I am going to call it a night & good luck with your Montreal Pinball League !

They might be terrific guys but they couldn't hold up to TOPL on a bad day on the flips.
I think it's time to plan an interleague match with TOPL hosting the first one since they are not the newcommers to the scene.
Answer to the first comment: Probably. But you tend to underestimate many of us, which I find quite funny. But then again, we don't play pinball to win precious little points in a system that doesn't mean mess unless you play ALL the time. It's just not how we roll.
Answer to the second: probably never, for one simple reason. The OPL and MPL are all about letting loose, chatting with friends and playing for fun and not caring.
TOPL is all about competition. It's very controlled, very tight on rules. You meet once a week. Our priorities are elsewhere. I play pinball to release tension and have fun.

I have to disagree with that statement. TOPL has as many if not more casual players then it does competitive players. We have players who are there for the social aspect only and players who are there for the competitive aspect. TOPL is a league that I think caters to everyone, we have the stuff needed to run a very competitive league but do things to include or social players as well. Just because we have a structured environment doesn't mean we are only for the competitive player.
I don't see an OPL or MPL vs TOPL event happening anytime soon, there casual leagues, the player component in those leagues aren't driven to compete so there not going to make the effort to head anywhere just for competition. The only way I see it ever happening is if it's done at a show where the people are there for other reasons anyway.
I joined ToPL to use as a status symbol. Chicks dig it.
You should see all the smiles I get from the babes when I'm wearing my crested pinball vest. They know. They can sense IT. Actually, I get smiles from old ladies too. and old men. You know, just about everyone smiles at me when I'm strutting my stuff. Some kids don't 'get it' and throw rocks at me but I'm usually wayyy too fast for them. Kids don't know what cool really is these days. I hate them.
Now I usually just wear my vest around the house so it doesn't get any more ruined.

Your statement only compounds what I was saying. "Compete". And that is perfectly fine, but it's not what the MPL and OPL is about. We just don't take it so seriously, that's all.
Does that make us "lesser" players? Probably, but I doubt you will find anyone who cares about that here.
As for the last statement, sorry... I disagree. I have been to the GTA MANY times, and so have others from Montreal and Toronto for events. Ricker was the first guy I saw from the TOPL come to one of our events.
You can all go ahead and try to make this a Leafs-Habs type of rivalry by stating you are better, but I always go back to Rudy's quote... it's only pinball.
