Since the other post is for image submission only, lets start another thread to discuss about it.

Just want to give my opinion on JD's pic (http://archive.maaca.org/s107351202.onlinehome.us/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1157733687/), i think theres a little too much on it, i would only keep one of the characters and put it in the middle (just like Daphnee right now) and put the "no quarters required" thing at bottom.

If you have any other opinions or modifications ideas, feel free to post it here, this thread if to discuss it all.

lol, my wife had me install the alternative match sequence on GnR... i dont think she would really like that shirt

(for those who never played GnR, the match sequence is a girl removing her shirt and the numbers are written on her boobs... you can turn it off, so now the girl does place a sign in front of her to show the numbers... more classy when the wife is around but less fun watching friends seeing it for the first time  )

Given that the shirt also promotes this web site to other people,
many who are not intimate with characters of specific games,
I would suggest that a new logo for the MAACA shirt instead uses
drawings or pics (that are not protected by copyright) of:

- A generic pinball machine, and
- A generic video arcade cab (upright and or cocktail), and
- do we need a small juke too (although few owners and posts here)
- The MAACA web address, and
- Something to indicate we are Canadian, like perhaps a smaller version of the
current No Quarter required with the robertson screw...

I am unfortunately not a graphic artist, but hopefully these suggestions could
be of some use...

... just my two cents,

Regards & Cheers,
- Sylvain

Here's a good compromise. Just put the T shirt on her. That way she can't see it.

I don't have any design skills of such nature but just want to point out one thing that bugs me about the current shirt.

I like to put in quarters in my machines to hear the sounds that they make (not the mechanical sounds but the game's coin drop sound).  Free Play is rare on my machines.  Hence, I never really liked the 'no quarters required' type of slogan.  I don't know if I am missing the point on the background of that slogan but I found that because of that, I never really cared to buy some t-shirts in the past.

Thanks.

"No Quarters Required"

I've tried not to take offence at this, but it's just like that club the older kids made when I was 8

I agree with Sylvain.

Furthermore, I think we need some more defined criteria before re-designing our t-shirt. I, personally, would like to see the following criteria being established, so the design could be made accordingly:

1) Bilingualism
2) Red as for the predominate colour
3) Pinball and video machines representation (images or written)
4) Something that shows that the association is representing members from across the Country...i.e.: a map of Canada in the background or something similar
5) A slogan...i.e.: not like frosken's suggestion!
6) The mission of MAACA

A few thoughts!

i propose something

1) simple

and

2) simple

thats it. no need to complicate things and to have a shirt representing every single little thing MAACA is about. i think the current design was really on the right track, concept-wise, but failed in execution (IMHO).

i will post something once i think of something worthwhile ....

Here's some "Gameskins" shirts for an idea of the type of shirt i'd like to see: http://www.thinkgeek.com/pennyarcade/gamer/

How about photoshopping a picture of a Novus #2 bottle to say "MAACA #2" with a slogan under it like "dont play dirty". If you guys like that idea I'll whip it up tonight!

Another idea, outline of a pinball machine with "MAACA" on the backglass. Under it written "nudge this."

realizing my ideas are pinball oriented. i'm just bored at work so bear with me.

Ooooook... this always pops up when the name of the group is mentioned.

I know, I know.... Montreal doesn't necessarily represent the whole group, I understand. I am quite open to changing the name, but not the letters. People everywhere identify with MAACA. Same thing with CGCC... you can change the words, but change the letters, and people are lost.

So I tell you guys what... find words that go with MAACA, and we might change it... better to simply change the first word though... from Montreal to... I dunno... Multi-Canadian... whatever....

Caandian? CAACA?  It does make for interesting possibilities, but might be a little crazy... here could be funny mottos:

CAACA... We are so good that we are full of... arcade games.

CAACA... Where games can smell worse...

For MAACA, we had tons... there have been other threads on this. Here are some examples:

MAACA... a REAL player's club!

...got your game on?

...We beat balls and slap sticks!

...We are the smart ones who figured out that it is cheaper to buy a game than keep feeding it quarters.

And it goes on and on...

Retiring soon...

Sorry, for all of those who did not know, starting from now, when I put AH! AH! AH! it means, indeed, a French laughing!

Well, I am from Calgary, and I certainly don't have a problem with the name! I think it is Multi-Canadian enough just by letting anyone join!!  Did you ever try to join the Vancouver based group? "Well, you can't be a full member, we have to meet you" What a load of Crap!! You play Pinball, I play Pinball, You want to sell a Game, I want to buy a game. What difference does it make where I am! Sure it is tough to go to their tourneys or meetings, but I have made lots of friends through this list (Some of them I didn't even give money to!), and I am glad I found it! I say MAACA is Fine the way it is!!

Rant over, Please go about your business, Nothing to see here, Move along, Move along!

You know what? I love the fact that there are members everywhere. The thing I find really cool is visiting other members, playing some games, and chatting away. Let's face it... it's what this whole hobby is all about anyways. You haven't played pinball or vids until you have had a few people over, crack open a cool brew, munch on some chips and just have fun. It really isn't about the games... it's about the people.

As for the Vancouver based group, I can't say much since I don't know them, but if they want to restrain their membership, their cal... but they are missing out!

As for meetings, I know it isn't easy... Adam (Goodicksa) keeps telling me that he would love nothing more than to attend one! But keep the following in mind... MAACA has gone national for quite some time now. We do believe that there can be different chapters, like the Toronto chapter, the Western chapter (you guys!), and the Eastern chapter (us so far). We have always encouraged to organize your own meetings in your area... why the hell not??? One day, I will go see you guys and have some fun. I made the same promise to the T.O. boys a while back, and I certainly do intend to fulfill it.

Just remember this about the meetings... once you have many people over and play games or even shop em out, you get hooked!!!!

Hey All,

I think JD3 came up with some great design elements for the Maaca T-shirt.  The woman is incredible, even for a cartoon and the Space Invader monster is easily recognizable.

What I suggested is that JD3 position her on a pinball machine (sexy pose of course) with the Space Invader Monster in the backround or  coming out out of the videogame (Suggestions for pintitle include Scared Stiff he he, Funhouse, GNR ?.  She already has a look of surprise on her face and is looking away in shock/fear.

This would represent the two main factions of this organization (Pinheads and Vidio...er I mean Vid Guys).

Other than that all we need is a Maaca Motto on the bottom of the caption.  What do you think of these (Even Sparky hasn't heard these ones yet)?

Maaca - Play hard and fast, and be sure to bring your girlfriend ...he he

Maaca - Careful we play rough this side of the border!

Maaca - It's all fun and games, except when it comes to PINBALL!

Maaca - Where its okay to "tilt" but just don't spill your drink!"

Maaca - We keep our balls in motion!

I love the enthusiasm but, we have to make it so that families can enjoy it, some kids wear the T-shirts. as well so those mottos are great for an off shoot T-shirt, it might be projecting the wrong idea of what we are about "fun for all". as for the rough idea i did was just an example done real quickly, most of it is borrowed modified images like Daphne from Dragons Lair (I am not that great of an artist). even then I am not sure if we can put her on a T-shirt with copy right laws, i really dont feel like getting sued. as a software choice (Adobe Illustrator) for design> vectorial lines so doesnt matter how big or small I make it the lines will always be perfect no grainy finish. working in layers (yes photoshop does it too) so I can create a layer for for each color plate makes the printers job easier and less expensive for us. but then again if somone wants to do thier own run of a T-shirt or other merchandise there is nothing stopping you from doing it. if it gets the word out great! i just want to offer people a chance to do something they want.

I don't have ideas for logo.
I am not graphic orientated
But do have a few different lines that could maybe used.

Maaca Where friends and Family play can Play.
Maaca where the nearest arcade is your basement.
Maaca Where the nearest machine for sale is not always on ebay!!
Maaca Where the help of friends will always get you more addicted to pinball and arcades!!
Maaca When pinball and arcades are still the in thing!!!
Maaca From coast to coast arcades come as one!!
Maaca From East to West there's always a basement arcade available!

Maaca Where there's only one Crazy Jim maybe not good but funny

Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.

Just a note that I've been working on a logo.
It's simple.
It meets the original criteria of the moderators.
It's also family friendly.

I'm also pleased to announce that the preliminary sketches have gained approval from my focus group.
Well, it's not so much a 'group'; it's more like some guy that I bother form time to time....
And it's not like he really 'approved' them but he also didn't say that they totally suck so I took that as a positive.

Anyways, I need to know the maximum width & height dimensions so that I can continue onto the drafting phase.

Thank-you
Adam

I have one and thats it.   if artwork is needed i might be able to get something done.  but also there is alot of great free clip art or other artwork on the net that is copyright free.

don't know if its gold or anything.  but if we came up with a space theme logo the saying could be, "we are from MAACA. take us to your pinball."

Hey, don't let me deter you, it is a contest afterall.
I only posted because I didn't know if there was a time limit and I didn't want to miss the deadline.

As far as design meeting the moderators criteria... I just meant that it fulfills their initial guidelines. Heck, they haven't even seen it yet.

Just wanted to clarify things.

Adam

I wouldn't trust a focus group like that. The guy is probably just pulling your leg and wants to see you fall and burn.....

Not that I would know anything about that

ok, first kick at the cat.
I've blocked my sketch into excel so I could upload it.

Not too bad but it has some issues.
I would like to increase the height while keeping the width approx the same so that the line segments gain more body.
Also, the upper and lower lines of text needs to be thicker or they will never show up on a shirt.

Oh, and of course I need to add the colours.
I also have some other ideas with flames and bubbles that I will work on as time permits.

Adam

Made some adjustments but I'm still not happy with it.
I think the fonts will have to be changed... A job for tomorrow, my head hurts.

There has been a couple of great entries with regards to the MAACA
next logo contest (no, not mine!).

Questions:
- When is the deadline ?
- Are there any other artists about to submit ?
- Where/when do we vote ?

Thanks,
- Sylvain

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,

Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for

there is no deadline since there isnt a great demand for any shirts (we usually do short runs)
there doesnt seem anyone wanting to submit.
voting well since there is no deadline so voting isnt set up yet.

could speed things up if they were sold before they were made

but in my opinion i really like "Quarters" design and slogan and is following the format i need to get the plates made. but all entries providing we get all the ducks in a row will be eligable for a vote.

here here, don't forget the vids.

My machine takes BYOAC tokens.  It was a nice way to let people drop coins, for the sound and nostalgia, but not make it like I'm trying to take their money, and not have to put fourty dollars worth of quarters in a jar for grabby hands.

Are we still voting from this thread for the new MAACA shirt contest ?

If so, I would vote for Quarters' design.

Thanks,

I just had a quick look at the submissions on the other thread. If you use a picture in your design that didn't originate from you, you should give credit where it is due. Or at least ask permission to use it. Just my opinion.
