Hello all,
Well, you have clearly left us your opinions, and almost unanimously have voted against the idea of an auction-based classifieds. I want to thank you all for your opinion on the poll, posts and emails we have received.
It is back to the drawing board for us. So far, we have come up with 2 ideas...First is to keep the old-type Classifieds but recategorize them. Basically, instead of just a single Classifieds section, which can cause some difficulties in finding something specific, we will create new sections, like the following:
Classifieds Pinball Machines
Classifieds Pinball Parts
Classifieds Arcade Machines
Classifieds Arcade Parts
Classifieds Miscellaneous
...Basically, these categories would replace "Classifieds" in the Forums main page. The problem with this is that we have no control of unnecessary replies. We would have to ask you all to limit your replies to very important comments. Besides, it is better to PM or email the seller or buyer, keeping the adds without problems. Only the original poster would be able to reply to their own add for changes or clarifications, keeping it cleaner. This is option #1.
Option #2 would be a separate Classifieds section similar to this one:
http://www.fuzzymonkey.org/cgi-bin/classifieds/index.cgi...This type permits easy classification, and no replies, which makes it a lot easier to deal with and to follow.
We will be installing BOTH types in the very near future, and we will let you, the members, decide which you prefer with a poll. But in order to do this, it means leaving you members with a "view-only" access for one evening, in order to perform the maintenance. This will be done in the next 2 weeks, and we will advise you in advance.
I hope you will all keep on giving us feedback on all new things we are looking into for the site. Remember.... this is YOUR site, not ours. That is the way we feel about it, and we believe it should ALWAYS be that way.
