Make sure you do your homework on the movers. There was a report that came out, or was at least in the news, yesterday. I think movers have always been a shady profession, seems like more are pushing the limits. Google for details.
I'd ask for a full quote, not an hourly rate as the overtime rate is generally ridiculous, or add a couple hours onto the estimate. Also note that most companies charge the hourly rate from once the truck leaves the compiund, until it returns, so if they are an hour from your house, that's 2 hours of their 'moving' rate for driving. If you go the hourly option, have them estimate the travel time and agree on it versus the actual time, or give you a reduced rate for travel time. They could be 'stuck in traffic' for some time. The last movers we had claimed that (driving from house to house) and yet showed up with coffee and donut icing on their chins. |
