I agree. A success for sure!I can't figgure out why?!?!
AND I'm not an Apple hater...I'd love to have an Imac, or Iphone.... The Ipad just doesn't do it for me at all, and I cant see why anyone would want one. Having an Iphone/smartphone and a decent laptop should be enough

Screw you guys, I love my iPad. Read all my world new and gadget/video game news this morning at the breakfast table. Didn't touch the newspaper. I also downloaded and read some comic books last night. Yesterday at dinner, I mentioned a youtube video I saw that day and was able to quickly find it and share it with her. Whenever I have guests over and I want to share pictures with them I just hand them the iPad.

But couldn't you use a laptop to do the same thing?
But couldn't you use a laptop to do the same thing?
Not the same. Much more clumsy to use, has to almost always be plugged in, has a huge footprint. iPad is much better than a laptop. I also don't own a laptop (just a netbook).

Sure that's fine. But what's with other people posting here implying that anyone who buys an ipad is a mindless fanboy? It's very snobbish.
Some people like gadgets, some people like muscle cars, and some people like pinball machines. The only thing we all have in common is that we all like pinball machines. Can't we allow others to have other interests too? You don't see me making fun of people for spending hundreds of dollars to stick a payphone in their basement or for buying over powered gas guzzling muscle cars. To each their own.

Cool....Hey, if you like it, rock on! It would be much better at a cottage then a laptop. Although, Its so much like a magazine, Id be tempted to smack mosquito's with it. Don't have that temptation with a laptop

Never implied that at all, and I'm glad you're happy with it. In fact, I think Apple makes very nice products. BUT, you have to admit.. they sell a mess load of products based on "coolness factor" alone. I'm betting a lot of those iPads that have been sold will only come out when a guest is over so the happy new owner can show them how cool they are.
BTW, last night on my useless laptop I downloaded a torrent of a Lost episode, and streamed it to my Xbox 360 wirelessly. Take THAT, iPad user.

And WTF is a muscle car?
I'm aware the iPad is a cool thing. I'm also aware of how people like you see it. It's for that reason that I'm afraid to use it in public. I don't want people to pay attention to me or think I'm some kind of hipster. That's the opposite of what I want. I bought the product because, *gasp*, I like it. Eventually the iPad and other products like it will be commonplace so I won't feel weird using it. It's what happened to the iPod.

Why do we have these types of threads? I don't post when I got a new razor (even if it has 8 blades and a moisturizer strip). Most Apple fan boys need to get on the soap box and scream how good something is or does, like it matters. Then they scream when people act negatively to it. To me it seem like they need the attention. I paid $299 for my mini, Get 9+ hours of battery life, View UTUBE, Look at comics, INSTALL anything I want, Plug in my USB mouse, play FLASH games, Take pictures, Pass it around the table to look at pictures, Play PINMAME, Put over 64 gigs of stuff on it, Type on a real keyboard, and I can run Mac OS on it if I want (which I don't).
'Ya I bought an Apple because it not a status symbol' baloney. I've asked many people why they want the latest Istuff and most times I get is a blank stare or 'Because it's cool'.
There are posts about pinball, about arcade cabs, those are relevant to this site. There are also posts about Bell, Rogers, billing, thieves, humour vids, Rock music/band members, genome, hoarders, bad days, good days, luck, bad luck, cars, camera and yes, censorship and astronomy . It's a public forum and people post stuff they like/dislike, you always have the option to ignore it.
Naturally, it's cool to comment on whatever, good or ill, that's a cool part of the net. I personally just wish people didn't have to get personal and borderline bullying in their posts but c'est la vie, seems like people have to put down others, fun game I guess.
The only thing sad is it seems more and more common lately for many to dwell on the negative on this board. I'm not better off, that's what I'm doing right now, but personally, it's a motivator to not read threads.
Cool gadget, not my cup of tea right now, but if they add more to it, something I might get later. I use a laptop, but prefer the touchscreen interface for the type of access I want, to a mouse/nub thingy (mouse itself would require a table, not something easily done sitting on a couch).

---------------- Shhh... stop using logic.

What bull*h*t. if that was indeed valid logic, Why did cellphones evolve from the crank up 10lb bricks to stuff that fits in a pocket? IT'S BECAUSE YOU GET MORE DONE WITH AN EASIER & BETTER FORM FACTOR.
The real ipad revolution will come in 18 months once people find new ways to incorporate tablet form into their lives that apple haven't yet imagined.
now if you'll excuse me, i have to go refill & rewick my oil filled lamps. That Edison fellow is running a scam on us all with his crazy notions that is managing to suck in all the guillible poseurs
All I can say is I never owned an Ipod, Iphone, Ipad or Iwheel.
MrMikeman's Corvette is far more engaging. For those of you that are unaware, there is a real world out there beyond the virtual one.
But MrMikeman also has an iPad!!!
And yes I've been an Apple HATER all my life and swore I would never buy anything from them... I hate to admit it but I really like it. Can my laptop do the same thing??? Of course it can... But it's bulky and has a short battery life.. I like the iPad because if the interface, the size, and the weight.

I disagree. The Ipad isn't a revolution, it hardly can be called an evolution. What Cobra said is valid. He get's as much functionality plus the convenience of a keyboard for less.
Other than it being I-something. WTF is so special?
If someone starts ranting about battery life and heat I am really going to have to laugh. If you want battery life with less heat go buy an Ivibrator.

although I admit if I could afford it I would definately buy a macbook (for protools alone) and if they had some sort of hack in to blackberry messenger I would go with an iphone, I have absolutely zero need for a ipad, I can do anything and them some with my laptop, I have it connected wirelessly to both my home computer, xbox 360 and my tv and I have 2 tBs of space.

Fads and innovative inventions are what's left of our need to evolve technology (which is the manifestation of our gene's role in survival, entertainment being tied into health and wellness), one of the traits that makes us human. In the short term, being a ludite is actually very attractive, but I would have to say that we have a lot to be thankful for AFTER some dubious gimmicks and inventions have matured.
The one related use I can think of for an inexpensive Ipad is something I have contemplated doing with some of the all-in-ones and netbooks that exist ... use them as a handy reference when fixing pinball machines (I have a huge library of resources on my server, and of course the Internet is a veritable smorgasbord of refernece material.)
The other use I contemplated was building it into a kitchen cupboard panel so that I could call up a recipe (or music) when I wanted it in the kitchen rather than collect paper recipes (I consult my recipe books less and less and end up printing a recipe for one mean, bookmarking it for the future, and dumping the paper after the cookin' is done.
Some people get a kick out of collecting and fixing and playing pinball machines, and others ask "Why?"....
....each to his own. If you can afford to acquire each new expensive technology to play with, well more power to you and I am jealous.

First of all, the person that started the thread doesn't own an iPad. Secondly...
I seriously cannot believe that people get so self-righteous about a $500 gadget. The same people that spend thousands of dollars on a collection of gaming devices.
If your Dell Mini works for you, great. I find mine terribly annoying to use, touchpads = the devil. Different platforms and gadgets all have their pros and cons. Just focusing on the cons of one product (and the iPad has many) isn't very helpful.
People are treating these gadgets like a religion. I have a Dell Mini AND an iPad. If you have a Dell Mini, great, but you don't have to cast aspersions on people that own a competing product in order to make yourself feel better. Jeez, they're just freaking gadgets.

I guess my point was lost. I have a lot of cool gadgets but I do not have to come on here and brag about how many they sold or how uber cool they are. This is like the second thread regarding the IPad. This is a public forum and when you post expect to get all realms of opinions, some good and some bad. My second point was that most people that buy these things don't even understand what it does except it the cool thing to own. My post is not an attack on anyone just my opinion and what I think is better for my buck. From the sounds of it you are enjoying this piece of technology and in the end that is all that matters.

Who did that? Sounds like you're arguing with a straw man.

Correct my point in starting the thread was to the hugh numbers being sold (whether the unit is good/bad or indifferent) more to do with the economics than anything regarding good and bad .. that stuff started with the haters and the fanboys.

What's your point? I was defending the usefulness of the product. People were saying how lame the product is and how it doesn't do anything different from a laptop. I wasn't gloating about sales numbers or talking about how cool I was.

I had lunch with a buddy last Friday who works for Rogers in the new hardware aquistion department, he had picked one up so I goofed around with it for a bit. I found it heavier than I expected but the screen was real nice. The funny thing was I asked him if Rogers bought it for him ... nope ... so I asked what kind of discount they got from Apple ... zero discount .. full price ... apparently they went to Best Buy and offered to buy 250 of them .. they were told fine ... but no discount. So the market is still uber hot for these.

It's not just Best Buy, Apple has full control over pricing with every reseller. The only time you'll get a discount is if you get a teacher / student discount (which is actually a pretty decent discount).
The markup on Apple hardware is very, very small.. that's why resellers push peripherals, software and warranties so hard.

I admit... I just don't get it. It's like going back to one of these in size:
Why the heck make a BIG IPhone? where the f**k are people going to put it when walking around?
...Oh, right... it is a laptop. That you can't upgrade. You can't add memory, you can't replace a defective or worn battery, you can't buy anything except Apple product to add onto it. Basically... it is a big IPhone with some laptop capability.

Agreed .. Rogers would normally just deal with the vendor but Apple shot them down so that is why they tried the Best Buy route ... I just found it funny that even with an offer to buy something like 200K+ worth of product the discount was zero.
