So I've got the Royal Rumble home now.  Got everything working 100% again.

Things to do: I need to adjust the flippers slightly but it's not a rush.  I need to make my speaker wiring hacks more permanent with solder and heat shrink.  I need to re-do my previous repairs on the DMD.  It originally had 21 lines/columns out becuase some idiot didn't know how to remove it.  Had it all fixed but now there's about 4 lines and 2 columns that need to be fixed again.  DMD is super bright with no burn-in so I can't just throw it out.  I need to find some conductive epoxy - I'm all out

Last night I changed the introduction call when you start a game.  It was "It's time for Data East's Royal Rumble".  I got a sound clip from Micheal Buffer (the original "Llllllllllllllllllet's get ready to rumblllllllllee!!!!!!) and used that instead.  More of a proof of concept.  It works well but I don't like the "pace" of how he says it.  I'll work on it some more to make it like I want it.  I have to squeeze it into 3.119 seconds to work.  Easy enough just time consuming.  The Micheal Buffer call is trademarked and copyrighted so I can't make the eprom available.... officially...

BTW I checked and as of 2009, Buffer had earned over $400 million from licensing on the trademark.  ..  No wonder Data East didn't use it...  Wish I could come up with a multi-million dollar catch phrase!!

Pictures are useless because it's the same machine I had before.  See my website if you're curious.

Mike

I associate that line with boxing more so than wrestling. I'm sure he's introduced a WWF match or two, but wouldn't there be a better sample to use?

My 10 year old is a diehard WWE fan. I still call it WWF though to his dismany. It was the best ever back in my day. Mid to late 80's It was as big as UFC is now. Everyone got it on payperview. Anyhow my son would love to have one, by the time I'd find one on the westcoast for him, he'd be to old probably hah.

I do as well, but I checked out IMDB and he has in fact used it for Wrestling.. (BTW, he looks like a robot these days)

I believe that he leases the phrase out to his brother as well (who also does ring announcing) .. and yes Buffer did many WWF PPV in the day and even more WCW ones ... still no where near the number of boxing PPVs but not a small number as well.

I played it at the last meeting and I really liked it as well. Great DMD animation (in line with DE pins like TFTC). DE really put effort in their animation sequences and it showed.

Fun sound samples. Classic wrestling rocks. I even liked the Macho Man  OOOH YEAH with the bonus point count at the end of a ball.

Retiring soon...

I'm open to suggestions!!  I've even tried having my voice saying something tacky instead but it sounded really stupid.

Forgot to mention...  My 4+ year old high scores (all 6 of them) were still on the machine and so was my custom message "Welcome to Mike's gamesroom"..

And yes the AA batteries hadn't been changed in over 4 years.

The machine now sits in it's permanent spot in my "new" gameroom.  Pics when I'm done moving stuff around and the bowler is in place.
