Now that sounds really cool! I think that if you could take some of the older pins and juice them up this way, with the sounds, it would add a whole new dimension to the game. I love it!

Electronics/software people could do some amazing conversion boards if it was economical. A basic generic platform with writable software would be amazing.
Just don't like it. Perhaps it's nostalgia -- Gorgar was my first pinball -- long gone -- and is the game responsible for me giving up video collecting and jumping into pinball collecting. I want to like the sounds, but, for me, I just don't like it. I like the original sounds. It's like adding electronic sounds to an EM -- just doesn't seem right.

Duane
Right on Duane !!! Couldn't agree with you more.
We need to have at least a little bit of the past speak to us directly in our present so as to remind us of stuff we forget naturally, instead of having it tell us lies which we quickly learn to gobble & blindly enjoy until we believe it to be right. Sure it's "cool" and all that, but damn it, there is so little truth left these days, and even less when we allow ourselves to think it's OK to mess with things that are weird enough on their own and manage to remain damn interesting simply through the passing of time, providing that one has the right minds eye. Duane has shown that he has that "minds eye" in the above quote,- he still prefers the truth while seeing the appeal in the lie.
I think that what I am trying to say here is - DON'T LOSE YOUR OWN IMAGINATION BECAUSE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES THAT ARE APPLIED AS THRILLS & ADD ONS TO PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND\OR BREAKTHROUGHS.(i.e. Gorgar, the first talking machine )
Enough said, I rest.
Does anyone else care to "weigh" in on this topic, I am exhausted.

... things that are weird enough on their own and nevertheless remain damn interesting...
! That nicely sums up Gorgar. It is one weird machine. You have a guy saving a woman or is he sacrificing her? A demon on the backglass...very strange game, but a classic. Just a great playing game without multi-ball! It's perfect as is. I love the magnet and the placement of the drop is perfect.
Wow! That's some pretty heavy comments. It's merely a soundtrack... lighten up a little bit. We are not talking about minimizing or altering the "history" of Gorgar and it's "design". Just simply have some fun with it; it does not have to be so complicated, we live it every day in the news. It's a hobby

I think I was pretty light last night, and possibly drunk with exhaustion when I wrote those passionate comments. Maybe you're right, this is no place for ones ideas, it is just a pinball hobby forum.
In my case, I have to be careful when the first comment in a thread says, "What are your thoughts?" I tend to give them out.
Keep it simple is the motto here, say it's cool or awesome or it's no good.

The thing that I love about that modification is it is all very doable. Like Pascal Janin's PI-1 X4 board for GTB sys1 that has an attract mode, skill shot etc. There are a lot of people capable of designing these systems. After all it is obsolete (not cutting edge) electronics. A bit more processing power, 2 channel DACs for stereo sound, new sound samples, etc.

Could you possibly forward me information on who could potentially do sound work on my Gorgar. I like my Gorgar but when you can breathe new life into something old and make it interesting for the newer generation, why not.

Sky, I don't know anyone personally who can do the job as a one off. There is a guy on the forum who has changed the voice calls on his WWF Wrestling machine. I guess he has software to produce compatible files of his own sound samples and burn them on a ROM. That would be pretty limited to the manufacturer and specific code their ROMs contain. Incidently, the CPU controlled lighting has also been changed on this Gorgar demo.
There was a board coming to market that was supposed to be plug and play that allowa you to reprogram sound files but I don't think it ever went past the prototype stage. I would buy it for some of my early 80's SS machines if the price was reasonable.
