Game in question is a Data East Tales From The Crypt.

I have checked the EOS switch and believe it is properly adjusted, but I could be wrong.

problem/symptoms

on my good flipper (right) if I place my finger 1/2 way along the flipper travel and press the flipper button....the flipper will travel 1/2 way (to my finger) then press up against my finger and continue to apply pressure (trying to travel to its full path) until I release the button.

on the "bad" (left) flipper, If I do the same (place finger 1/2 way thru flipper travel) and press the flipper button.. the flipper travels until it hits my finger then "stops" trying to travel any further (unlike the good flipper that try's to keep going)

What say the resident guru's?

Think about a flipper this way.

It has two coils. One to raise the flipper and one to hold it there. If the coil that is designed to raise it gets to a point that it feels it is no longer required i.e. hitting the EOS, it will then only leave the holding coil on.

Your description seems to describe the main coil cutting out too early in the stroke which would appear to an EOS problem. I would review the EOS again for good conductivity and adjustment. Also check the coils are in the right way and connected to the correct wires for each of the two coils.

Sounds good and makes sense, thank you.

I will have a good look at it tomorrow night (BUZY as all hell tonight with a O dark stupid timing tomorrow)

DE/SEGA/New Stern flippers on machines that have the solid state flipper boards do not have the dual wound coils like Bally and Williams, it's only one coil winding. The high/low power on TFTC is controlled by the EOS switch and the flipper control board. If your EOS switch is clean and adjusted properly, then you may need to look at your wiring to/from the solid state board or the board itself.

Clay's site has some good info on DE flipper issues:

Also check fuse F3 on flipper control board.

I had a chance today to have a look at the flipper.

The EOS switch is adjusted correctly (100% sure of this) when the flipper is pressed, that switch is opened up.

I had a look at all the fuses on the flipper control board and they tested good.

I am going to keep digging around and see what I can find. Just took a quick break from the main project of the next 2 days, ripping apart the top end of my cars engine and doing all the gaskets. I have a small vacuum leak somewhere.

Had the same problem on my Robocop and Tommy. Robocop doesnt have any EOS switches and Tommy does but the problem was corrected with replacing the flipper coils for both situations.

I'm curious... Where do you get your parts in Toronto?

Starburst Coin should have them, I imagine Stern is still using the same coils. Give their parts dept a call with your coil number and see what they say.

It was just curiosity. I get my parts from either pinballlife or Canadian pinball parts (JM)

I go to Starburst for rubbers and bulbs...and to play whatever the newest machine is at the time. Other than that, unless it's for a new Stern era machine, they dont have it.
I order from Terry at Pinballlife, and a few of the usual others too. But those coils I got from someone from Fort Erie, this was a few years ago, I was brand new at this then and I dont remember who that was now! But I bet he probably ordered things from Pinballlife or Marco etc, I would imagine.
For transistors and display chips, mpu chips etc, I go to this place on College just east of Spadina on the south side. Its called Creatron, and theres a very helpful slightly older Asian dude that'll help you find what you need. This place is a Godsend, they have so many things I end up needing for board work.
And the rest I just have from accumulating playfields etc. You get alot of good spare parts for your machines in those pf's.
