Well, I don't feel much like working, so I thought I'd take a little break and post a mindless thread...
Although everyone seems to generally agree that Williams ruled the roost in the post-1983 era, one must recognize that there were an awful lot of pins manufactured by other companies in that time as well.
It begs the question: what is your favorite non-Williams pin manufactured between 1983 and 1999 and why? This period seems to be fairly forgotten in the collector community as far as the other makers are concerned, yet there are some interesting pieces that came to market during that time. And, no, Bally machines made after 1989 don't count.
Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 ) Flipper Football, The Shadow
Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 ) City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500, Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot, Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest
For me it's Tales from the Crypt (would be LOTR but the years were limited).

Previously Owned: Vids- Far too many to list Pins- High Speedx2, The Shadow, Mystic.
I really had to think about that. Like Cooke said this era is kind of off the radar of most collectors, myself included. And my vote goes for...
Black Water 100. Why? Because it just damn cool. You start off with multiball which is very newbie friendly. The game has a fantastic look to it with molded ramps, tons of flippers, and a unique variety of shots. Great sounds for it's period and a very unique layout -- there is even a playfield behind the flippers. Now to be fair, I haven't played it alot so I don't know if it has "legs" and would stand the test of time.
Honorable mention goes to Eight Ball Deluxe. I just like this game. It's simple and fun with a variety of drop targets --- love those drops. I think it was also the first game to ship with translucent pop bumper cabs and they look awesome. The artwork, like the game play, is top notch. Just thinking about it, I may like this one more than BW 100, so I guess I'll call it a tie. There's a reason this game commands so much $$$.
this time period is where i find most of the machines i really enjoy. says alot about me? here is a couple Hook Data East Laser War Data East Maverick Data East Q*Bert's Quest Gottlieb Rock Premier The Simpsons Data East WWF Royal Rumble Data East
but most of the machines i really want are williams.

Hanuted House and Eight Ball Deluxe were made before Dec. 31, 1983.
I chose the year range from 1984 to 1999 because there are many, many obvious non-Williams collector favorites pre-1984 and a couple of completely obvious choices in the post-1999 period. But the in-between years seem to be so absolutely dominated by Williams that you don't often hear about anything made by anyone BUT Williams in that era.
Personally, I have found DE Time Machine and Back to the Future to be very fun machines. And I'd love to get a chance to play some System 80/80B machines other than Diamond Lady and Hollywood Heat.
