Anybody notice their car insurance getting jacked up for no friggin reason? If you havent yet...you will. I was paying around a grand a year, yesterday I open the letter and all of a sudden its $1500 a year. So I phone my broker and they said...oh, they're adjusting the rates. So today they call me and say...yup, they raised the rates, all insurance companies...all around, theres nothing we can do. Nothing we can do?! F%$k that. Those f&#king crooks. They piss away our money on bad investments, deals, claims and who foots the bill? Suckers like us. Insurance companies are in trouble...well, thats THEIR fault, not mine. In THIS economy, hiking someones rates...with no claims...by 33% is s really good way to lose business. I'm yanking my contract with that company. Already found a couple of cheaper ones. So, instead of the extra $500 they were trying to EXTORT from me...they shall now have a minus of $1500 that they'll NEVER see from me.
Banks, credit card companies and insurance companies...all, ALL should be shot and pissed on from really great heights.

Spoken like a young man with an optimistic view. Dont worry, you'll have plenty of time left to get screwed over by those companies yet.

I guess I'm more optimistic since my insurance dropped a lot over the past year since I turned 25.

I just got my new quote for moving to Ottawa. Both cars (Audi's) went down about 25$ here vice Petawawa. My home insurance went up about 25$ here in Ottawa tho.
All in all, insurance companies ARE crooks. Thank god we can shop around. the only catch there is if you have a single ticket. With 1 ticket your Insurance company will usually not raise your rate, however, if you try to go to a new company in the next 3 years the ticket will affect your initial rate. So if you get a ticket, you are kinda stuck with your company for 3 years.

I take that 'crook' comment personally as I sell insurance for a living. The consumer will always complain about any goods or services they have to pay more for. Checked your grocery bill lately? Are Loblaws a bunch of scammers? How about your property taxes? What do you get for that? It's very satisfying helping 'the client' who calls me every year to complain that his premium is going up $5 bucks but changes his tune when he gets wiped out in an accident.
heinekenlvr will probably confirm this for me, but just like the company that insured my motorcycle told me.......It's not necessarily what YOU do that causes your insurance rates to go up, but what the piss poor drivers out there do.
The ones that cause accidents, the ones that make over-zealous claims of injury to milk the system, etc. I blame partially the "No fault" system, I think drivers should be held more accountable for their actions. I had my bike wrote off by some goof that started to make a left turn oncoming only to realize I was there (Coming at him at 70km/hr) and STOP halfway through his turn, in the rain when I was less than 50 feet away. I could have coasted behind him, instead I had to slam on the brakes and in the rain locking them up for a split second sending me and the bike clean past him across the pavement.
Bad drivers cause high insurance rates, and the joke No Fault system slaps them on the wrist and makes EVERYONE pay for it.
As much as we complain about insurance companies, life without insurance would be far more painful. in 1989, i had the bad luck that 3 different accidents happened on my property (none of which were my fault), took forever to get new insurance let alone reasonable rates afterwards.
Although we could solve a lot of problems and lower insurance rates if we just simpley executed any uninsured or unliscenced driver that caused an accident. That would sent the right message and start to clear the roads.
I know of many individual stories where lives would have been destroyed and businesses destroyed if it were not for insurance. The reason insurance is going up higher in Toronto is because last year for every one dollar that insurance companies took in they paid out $1.20 in claims.
So when you pay your premium they pay out 20% as a loss - can any company survive doing this?? NO they can't. When a house burns to the ground and the insurance company pays $750,000 to rebuild it plus $250,000 for the contents, your house insurance still only costs $1000/year. HELLO - do you see what I am saying here? Insurance is a pool for the benefit of everybody.
Here is my last example the guy above who started this post pays $1500/year for insurance but when you drive like a freaking retard and rear-end someone at a red light it ends up costing your insurance company ONE MILLION dollars or more to pay the guys expenses for the rest of his life. How many $1500 premiums does it take for the insurance company to make back that one claim?? Many - and there are million dollar claims all the time.
You do have another choice. Instead of bitching about the insurance companies raping you why don't you self insure your car then? If you smash it up, pay for it yourself. Also you can post a bond with the government for the minimum $200,000 limit so you don't need to carry liability insurance on your car either. That way when you kill someone you can hire the lawyers and pay for the claim yourself. Same with your house and contents. Nobody wants that risk - so the insurance companies have to charge for it. Pretty simple idea if you ask me. Perhaps insurance should be free and pay for your million dollar claim?? C'mon, seriously?
