Hello All!

I have a DE JP and it appears that there is an issue with the one of the rows in the lamp matrix.  I put the machine into diagnostic mode and confirmed that all of the lights in the one row are out

I'm wondering as a newbie to the world of pin collecting, is this something that I can potentially tackle myself (I have some knowledge of electronics but by no means am I an expert)? OR is it better that I seek help of a trained professional and if so, is there anyone that someone would reccommend in the Greater Toronto Area that is knowledgeable and reliable?

Thanks!

When I had My jp it did that to me.
I had to rebuild the GI connector on it because it was burned out.
This site here can help you and guide you through the repairs http://www.pinrepair.com/de/index1.htm#connect
It is very easy to make a new connector once you have one just make sure all wires go the same way on the new molex.
Also make sure all your connectors are properly enterd in the board before you do this maybe during transport it got loose or disconected.
If you are not sure where the GI for those lights are look in the manual and see where the connector that controls those light are.
Incase you don't have manual I provided you with a link that you can download it.

Good luck

Ethous you misread the post.  He doesn't have a problem with the GI but rather with the lamp MATRIX.  He likely needs to change the driver (transistor) for that row, is the problem is not realted to the wiring..  It's probably better if you have a fellow collector from the area have a look at it.

Things you can easily do yourself if you have 'some' understanding of electronics..

1- Check continuity from the lamp matrix connector on the MPU to the lamp sockets.  All 8 lamps are connected in a daisy chain fashion - check all 8 sockets..

2- Check the connector itseld for signs of damage / bad contact.

3 - Once you'ce eliminated connection problems then it's time to look at the electronics.
