Tonight Team Canada plays Norway in Olympic Hockey....any score predictions?

You guys are smoking some good mess to think anyone but the Juniors or Womens teams, can pull off blowouts like that against any of the Hockey oriented Euro teams.
Now if they were playing Latvia or Belarus, I could see such a blowout...not Norway, they aren't THAT bad.

Yup they are...expected to finish 11th place, have 1 NHLer on the team, and haven't made it to the olympics in 16yrs...but don't worry, one of the players from that team is on this one as well (although, he's 39yrs old now )

Expected 11th? I REALLY can't see them finishing behind Latvia and Belarus, and doubtful if they finish behind Solvakia. Czech Rep and Russia will beat Slovakia, I can only see Slovakia winning their game against Latvia, and even that is a tossup...both teams are equal in the "Suck" department.
Same for Norway really, can only see them beating the Swiss...maybe.

The way the groups are set up, are total "Gimmes", you already know who will get their asses handed to them in each. Of course, preliminary round only sets up the QF 8...we'll have to see about that, but Latvia and Belarus might as well go home now.

Only Austria is seen as worse then Norway according the The Hockey News....Whatever...they all suck compared to Can, Swe, Rus, and Kaz
Pretty poor showing by the USA today..only beat the Swiss 3-1, and only took about 26 shots, yikes! I expected more from them...

If you bothered to look at the whole picture in the IIHF via games played against who etc, and the Olympic groupings...you'd see why I say what I do. Quoting The Hockey News and showing me IIHF standings when OG groupings are how they are doesn't mean a thing. None of those teams is going anywhere, no matter how you slice it though.

P.S. Those IIHF rankings mean JACK. How do you point to rankings like that, when the players aren't even the same all the time? That's an NFL mentality of "My team has won 3 Superbowls...one in 1972..."...yeah

8-0, kinda surprised Norway did not get a single goal. They had a handful of really good chances, though for the most part they played like crap.

The rankings may not apply to the elite teams that the majority of the players play in the NHL and the roster
changes considerably from tournament to tournament.

But teams you commented on have next to no players if any in the NHL, so the rosters don't change very much
from what those rankings are based on.

To say you KNOW that this team doesn't have a chance against another when you probably couldn't name
three players on either team doesn't make much sense.

the field.  The IIHF website even said the Top 9 teams in the Olympic tourney are determined by those rankings, if that meant
nothing why would they use it to determine the field for the tournament?

Why don't you try looking up how they get those rankings, instead of just flapping off...because that IS how the rankings are determined. What else are they going to use? Draw straws?

If only Iginla had someone to feed him the puck like that in Calgary, the Flames'd really have something.

Once the game progressed, Canada found their legs and the coaching staff did some modification to the lines (Iginla on first, Bergeron on 4th) and you could see that Norway player were tired. (Nash passing them like they were schoolboys).
I have a positive feeling about this team. Very confident, no apparent weakness. Excellent bench boss. I don’t miss Bertuzzi, Draper, Foot, McCabe, Redden, etc...

I'm not a fan of Crosby being team captain.. I believe that role should go to the most experienced, not the most popular

Actually, Wikepedia has Crosby as "A" Assistant Captain for this team....guess he's an alternate in case, Neidermayer breaks a hip, or Iginla/Pronger get suspended

Well you learn something new every day, I did not in fact know how the rankings were compiled.

I'm not sure the flapping off and grow up comments were necessary but to each there own.

I had a few drinks when I was watching the game so take my comments of last night with a grain of salt.

The only thing I and the other poster really disagreed with you on was the comment that Norway isn't as bad as Belarus and Latvia.  Maybe when all three end up 0-3 then we can talk.

Enjoy the rest of the tournament.

And I'm pretty sure only in Canada would you see two guys arguing or caring
about where teams are ranked outside of the top 6.

Finland 5-1 over Belarus
Russia 8-2 over Latvia

Best either can hope for now is 1-2, Belarus won't beat Sweden and Latvia won't beat the Czech Rep. Both their other games will be close, but I don't see them winning them either.

they should be able to beat Germany.
