I was there again yesterday at lunch playing FG. For those of you planning to go, the FG is partly broken. Stewie pinball (the miniature pinball game) no longer works.. Still a very fun game though... POTC still works 100%. Question for the group: What causes a pinball's playfield to turn black (like a soot like substance) so quickly on location. I've seen games on location turn to black within one or two months. It can't just be dirt; must me something that the game is generating. Is it something particular to Sterns?

They all break and need to be serviced eventually (even the new ones). The black can be due to a few things including Black Rubber instead of White Rubber (which does this game use?), something is getting ruined/scraped inside the playfield causing extra dirt to move around on it, materials in general wear out slowly (even metal parts, etc.)...
Vids: Crystal Castles, Gauntlet/Gauntlet II, Donkey Kong Jr., Ms. Pac-Man, Vs. Super Mario Bros. (other Vids in storage - for now) Pins:White Water [WH2O]

Like you, Dino, it amazes me that the dust starts so quickly. It's definitely not unique to Stern games. As already said, black rubber, and metal parts all cause black dust. Also, if smoking is allowed, that gets into the game as well. Trust me. I bought a location game once with disgusting TAR glued to the ramps. Now that was gross. Took awhile to clean it off, too. Wish I had taken pictures of that. Would show my kids (when they are older) so they see the effects of smoking -- nasty.
One nice thing about that dust -- at least my experience with it -- is that it seems to protect the playfield. Provided the balls are good, the playfield should be really nice once cleaned up. I bought a few games over the years where I was baiscally buying "blind" as I couldn't see the playfield under the dirt. In all cases, the playfields were incredible.
I went there this week-end ... stewie pinball on FG doesn't work and Pirates of Caribean was out of order this Sunday. Hopefully, I have had the chance to play pirates of caribean friday, the flippers were strong and the gameplay was great. There was a good traffic on family guy, I had some difficulties to play it.
I went also to Triplex and all the pins except T3 were broken/scrap.
Pins I own: The Shadow, Tales from the crypt, Funhouse, White Water, Demolition Man, Black Rose, World Cup Soccer 94
