Chris...you hit the nail on the head. I had gone into Starburst to look at a used POTC... but saw the NIB TSPP and knew it was going home with me.

Wasn't expecting to spend the money...but this was my shot to NIB stardom...

This is my worry.  I will go to Starburst to pick up my NIB SM and see something else that I want.  I will be playing some of the other games while I am there but I am just worried that I will see a used FG and want to take it home with me.

I had no regrets about buying a NIB LOTR.  Make sure you get the metal flipper button protector...it's worth whatever Stern is charging for it these days.  If you don't get it, you'll get wear on the graphics around your flipper buttons, and it will diminish the look of your investment.

If you invested the money reasonably in the late 90's that you would spend on NIB WMS games you would still have enough to buy the higher ones at the current value, assuming you cashed in before Jan '08. Of course you would pay a lot of income tax though.

There are so many things tha if purchased "then" would be worth so much more now.

I wonder what proportion of WMS titles in the 90's were sold for home use. My guess is a small fraction of what the Sterns are now,.

I'm curious who on this forum bough new WPC titles in the day? I can only think of one guy from TOPL (John Flitton) who bought a few titles new in the 90's. He still has them incidently.

OMG, I just looked at WMS's stock value back when they closed the pinball division and where it is now. Let's say that if you invested $10,000 back then you'd get close to $100,000 now. A NIB MM doesn't have that kind of return on investment, even if you kept it in its box (plus you'd have to pay for storage).

Yeah, it would have been great to have had the foresight to buy up stock when williams stuff was being blown out.

It looks like at least part of the motivation for looking into this is gone though.  I stopped by starburst on the way home today to check into a NIB Simpsons, and it turns out that they're out of them now.  They still had at least one when I was last there 2 weeks ago-I guess you just have to jump on these things when you see them.

There is still one available, http://www.recroom-amusements.com/pinforsale.htm
