Oh F@#k! I was a HUGE fan of GG. I have all their vinyl which I purchased used in the late 80's when it was hard to find. Original sleeve for In a Glass House, etc.
So which two members? Kerry Minear and who? Definitely not the Shuman brothers. One went on to become a big record producer in Cali. Another guy owned a gift shop in the UK. On to obscurity...Oh I see now Gary Green.
Apparently, they did really good show (s)in MTL back in their heyday.
2 ex-members of Gentle Giant are coming to Montreal tonight. I have tickets. I used to play in a band and we covered some GG. I'm a big fan.
wow ! I missed them in 1975 on the FREE HAND tour , in trois-rivières . This formation will be in Quebec city tomorrow night , tickets at $65.00 . That ' s half a rotten dog solenoid driver board ... HHHuuuummmmm ... Tough decision

Funny thing, here on TO the only people I have met that know ANYTHING about GG are old rock afficianados.
IMHO they were WAY better than YES or King Crimson or Jethro Tull or any of the other similar multiple instrumental bands of their time. Super talented guys.

True, but they couldn't handle the transition that most progressive rocks bands did from prog-rock to rock or even pop. Many bands did the change well, like Yes and Genesis, while others stayed with their old-style material like King Crimson. The Shulmans and Kerry minnear wanted to move on to something else but the group as a whole wasn't comfortable with the change, so they disbanded in 1980.
The thing that sucks is that minnear was my favorite member, and he was part of 3 Friends which are here tonight, but he left the group last fall after a few months of forming it with Green and Mortimer.
Oh well...
Yup... I like classic rock. Problem is I NEVER go see bands like Iron Maiden anymore. Awesome music... I just can't stand the crowds anymore. Last time I went to a metal show, a guy 2 seats down was already piss drunk a half hour before the show started. By the second song, he was spewing more than Linda Blair in the Exorcist.
No thank you.
There is also the fact that most metal fans at these concerts think that if you have short hair, wear a regular shirt and jeans and don't smoke everything in sight, you are a poser. Hmm... funny... I was playing Maiden in my band when most of them were busy watching Sesame Street. At least I still get to belt it out with some buddies sometimes. I still get chills when we play songs from the "Them" album from King Diamond.

I've always been a huge prog fan. Floyd, Yes and (Gabriel-era) Genesis were always my favorites. I also like some of the more obscure stuff like Van Der Graaf Generator and Focus.
Lately I've been getting into Caribou. Modern Canadian prog. Pretty neat stuff:
I've also been discovering (thanks to Monkeybug) Atomic Rooster and some other more interesting older stuff recently like Ashton, Gardner and Dyke:
I highly recommend the The Best of the Beat Club DVD set. The stuff in there from '70-'73 is truly fantastic. There's lots of REALLY neat stuff on there that I had never seen before:http://www.amazon.ca/The-Best-.....276628755&sr=1-5
Two of my favorite performances from that set:
Keith Emerson will KILL your organ and eat it for breakfast...

VanDerGraaf Generator and Quicksilver, I remember them. Hocus Pokus, by Focus, the only yodeling rock song I know of. I have a ton of TajMahal in my computer. Cants see the pics at work, but the image of Keith Emerson slaying that organ with the mighty sword is an iconic image of classic 70's rock. Lucky Man, still a great song.
My all time favourite was Spirit. Saw them live at the Phoenix in the 80's and shook hands with the late (and very great) Randy California. Sadly, he disappeared while saving his teenaged son from the riptide in Hawaii. His step dad Ed Cassidy is still the oldest professional rock drummer, easily in his late 70's now.

Taj Mahal is funkin' groovy...
Van Der Graaf Generator and Focus Considering your age , you must ' ve been around progressive rock music at 2 years old !
Also , is it strange or not that i was downloading Frank Zappa music on frost wire , then went on youtube to find out song titles from "SOFA" , ran into that GG clip , decided to share it , only to find out that there will be some gentle giant music being played LIVE tomorrow night in Quebec City ??? WOW
