What do all you pinball lovers think about pinball 2000? Are they worthy of having in a home gameroom? How are they from a durabilty & maintainabilty perspective? Which one is more fun to play (SW or RFM)?

I think it's well accepted that RFM is the better game.  The folks that have actually PLAYED it (by playing I mean more than just a few quick games) usually like the game.  The folks that have never really tried it or that spend too much time on RGP will say it's terrible.

You really have to decide for yourself.  A few Ottawa MAACA guys have them.  Steph and pinballjm come to mind.  Ask them..  Or even better, go try it for yourself..

I'll chime in and agree w/ Mike. Ignore, Phil -- aka Mr Hide -- he doesn't like anything made in the last 20 years (unless he happens to own it !)

I really enjoy RFM, SWE1 not much. I have debated many, many times getting a RFM. It's alot of game for the money.

I only played RFM a few times in the arcade (first when it came out) and at that point in time I preferred the traditional pins. However, I am looking for opinions from the perspective of "if I guy only had room for 1 more pin would you choose a pinball 2000 pin over something more along the traditional lines of (Indiana Jones, STTNG, CFTBL, TOTAN, TAF).

This hobby is starting to be fun and filled with agony (the hunt really is the game). Waiting, searching ...

So what does everyone think? All opinions are valued.

I own one and think its a lot of fun.

But... I would only suggest getting one if you already have a few other games.  It makes for an interesting diversion.

Cripes, you didn't put it that way initially. NO! It's great in a larger collection, but there are better games...TZ, ST:TNG, LOTR, SPP, etc. All except ST:TNG are more $$$.

RFM is definitely in my top 10. I love it, and I really want to buy one soon. SWE1? Never... like I have stated before, feels like you are playing a commercial for the movie... RFM on the other hand takes AFM to a new (funnier) level!

Given more time, I would bet that it would have REALLY caught on! Imagine if they had a couple more pins to perfect the Holopin principle!!! Granted, I can't see what the attraction would have been for Wizard Blocks (mind you, practically nobody has ever seen much if not anything of this P2K model, and Playboy IMHO has been overdone even before it was stated as the 4th P2K to be produced, it would have been cool to see where they went with it...

So how easy or hard (often) is it to find an RFM for sale? Would you have much trouble reselling/trading an RFM? It seems like it would be difficult to find one to play enought in order to form an opinion about buying one - which leaves buying first and then selling if it was disagreeable. What is the price range for an RFM?

According to the movie Tilt!, the 4th pin started out with a haunted house theme.  But then upper management got this idea that they should make it Playboy, much to the dismay of the development team.

Also, aren't there sketches of Monster Bash and Cactus Canyon being done as P2K?

As the owner of an RFM and a SW Ep.1 kit,
I can safely say RFM is a keeper.

RFM is a fun, easy game, with arguably the best humor of any pin.

It's not at the same level as TZ, ST:TNG, etc... in terms of depth or shot selection,
but it's eye candy that everyone wants to play.

The game is pretty easy and the target shots are always the same,
but still, the video animation never gets tiring and it just never gets boring
(...for me anyways...)

SW Ep.1 on the other hand gets no love.

It's actually a deeper game than RFM (slightly harder ruleset),
but the shot selection is the same as RFM, and it doesn't have
a "hook" to keep you wanting to play more.
...which is why it's not as popular as RFM.

As for price, I've said it many times before that these games are bargain.
At $2400-2800 for a very decent quality pin , you get alot for your money.

They are by far the best designed pins for maintenance
and the level of engineering in them is phenomenal.

And like others have said, I don't know if it's worthy of being you're "only" pin,
but you certainly wouldn't regret having one in your line-up.

Good Luck,
Steph

Thanks everyone. I noticed the one for sale in Ottawa. I guess the Dilema (for me) is that I have room for 1 more pin and I am not in a rush to fill the spot but I would like to find one which is a real keeper (at a market-value price or less). At least a keeper until I tire of my TZ or CBW. My wife won't let me get rid of my Bally Flicker - she likes the chimes and old fashioned sounds. Keeps her interested and that is important.

From everything I have read it is a similar dilema for all you guys. Just one more pin, which do I get rid off.

If you cannot try one at a collector's place in Ottawa, there is 2 on location in Montreal.

The best playing one is at the Laurentien Bowling Alley on Jean-Talon. There is also a not-so-great one at Pinocchio, corner Jean-Talon and Langelier.

Would be much cheaper than buying one "just to try it out" imo, i didnt like it at first but the last time i went to the bowling alley i did enjoy it quite a lot. There is also an Episode 1 at the bowling alley but last i went, it was out of order. The other games (Sterns) were all blown out with no Gi but the RFM was working nicely ...

The RFM for sale in Gatineau apparently sold. Anyone in the MAACA group the lucky owner?
