Time for a new soldering iron, so i decided to purchase a Butane model.

I picked this one up at Walmart for 9.99. Used it to repair a transistor on a board repair yesterday.

Good deal, but am wondering how bad is the exhaust or fumes from using this product?

wouldn't that thing be too powerful for board work?

I'm no expert but I thought you only want something in the 15 to 20 watt range?

Anything higher and you could burn the traces off?

Good Question!

Another Macca member Dr. Sparky who has been repairing electronic equipment his whole life used one to repair my Tomcat awhile back. i would guess it is fine to use...

This unit has three settings and i had to turn it up to #2 to melt the solder.

But would like to hear feedback from the gang!

methinks that iron is really made for soldering wires to lugs and bigger stuff. You need a temp controlled solder station to consistently do board work. AND a solder sucker.

Ten SS games...but 8 is my limit!
