I honestly never thought that would ever happen...

Well it was more complicated than a straight trade but essentially yes...
That plastic is already cracked
I'll get the protector anyway.

Need a new arwin plastic and POTD protector and you're good to go!
Changed all the dead flasher bulbs last night (lot's of them) and palantir bulb.
The right hand lower flasher that melted is REALLY melted.. Had to break the underside of the plastic to remove the bulb. I'll need the MARS dome AND the plastic too.. Hopefully it's in the same set as the Arwin plastic.
I'll probably see some big changes in the game with the ROM update.. I still have the orig v.4.1 dated Dec 2003....
Damn work... I'd rather be home playing right now!!!

If you try and buy a full plastic set you won't get the Arwyen plastic in it. The full plastic sets contain a replacement but Arwyen's picture is missing, see here:
You will have to specifically look for the Arwyen plastic if you want to get that specific plastic. Then again, not sure how to find it as I doubt anyone will be parting a LOTR anytime soon.
I've looked it up and the correct plastic is included in the set but her face is not there for a reason. Stern decided to change it into a forest scene.. I read a comment from one of the designers that they determined that she was already on the apron, and having balls smash her face all day was pointless.. Then someone else made the comment that they'd love to have their balls hit her face all day but I digress....
TZ: I have no idea what the next thing will be... I think I've maxed out here... I can't afford anything else.. One game that I hadn't played before that I tried at expo was Monster Bash.. I thought that was the 'funest' pin I've ever played. MB's are too expensive tho...

So there I was.... Playing tonight.... 42M on ball 1, gave my extra ball to my wife just so she could try the machine (she has absolutely NO interest in pins and actually hates them I think).. Then I had to stop playing to get some stuff done in the house...
Continued my game about 1 hour later (ball 2)...
And I destroyed the ring (it's set on 2 balls so you have to knock out the ball in the ring)... Talk about a cool effect when the machine starts firing all solenoids continuously and operates the flippers on it's own... I still can't believe how cool that was.... And my wife got to see it..
She was like : OMG, what's happening?!?, what's wrong with the machine?!?..
Hehehe... too cool...
So now I have the DTR record... 1h34mins... lol

Grats on destroying the ring, although you have just begun the journey, I wouldn't really call DTR the wizard mode, it just kinda fits in with the movie, but is dam cool to do.
Now comes trying to reach Valinor, that requires you to get all the gifts of the elves, complete all 3 multiballs by acquiring the super jackpot and then destroying the ring. I'm looking forward to one day doing it myself, one day.
But grats on the new game as well, LOTR is definably a keeper in my home and not going anywhere.

Hey Mike,
I recall you are a very good player. I suspect you would get bored of MB. I agree 100% it is a blast to play, but I think it is a pretty easy game. Damn hard to miss that mosh pit -- the hole is HUGE and it gets bigger with age (by this I mean the hole is known for getting beaten to hell on route).
I agree with Marty that LOTR is one of the deepest pins out there. I haven't played or read enough about TSPP to know which one is deeper. Personally I LOVE the theme of LOTR and have wanted one for awhile. Someday...
Unfamiliar with this pin and SPP. How do they compare with each other and a pin I have tried............say Medieval Maddness. In the not so distant future I want one of these pins, but would like to know what the hoop-la is all about. I'm very familiar with MM, as they have one at the Winnipeg International Airport. However would like to test SPP and Lord of the Rings. It seems as though LOR is "the game".
Don't tell me to go to RGP, they covered this stuff and so on. I don't like wasting a lot of time which usually happens when I go to that site. This site is great, its way more informative and a lot of you guys seem to know each other, hang out, help with finding parts/machines and even play pinball together. Fan...tasssss.....tic......
I knew that DTR was only a small step towards the 'goal' on LOTR but I didn't expect what I saw!!!
Now I have to start getting good at those damn modes..

I guess the big thing about LOTR is that it can be fun for newbies, yet be a player's pin for deepness...
I played that MM at the airport lot's!!! I also played a lot at the Chicago show this year and got to know it better.. In MM, you try to accomplish shots in order to light the associated madness (or all for royal madness)... But then what??? You just go for points/jackpots... Also you destroy the castles in order to defeat the reign of pain... You have lot's to do, but you're not necessarily rewarded for being succesful, you're rewarded for getting there..
With LOTR, you also have lot's to do. You have the 'modes', seven of them, plus the 'movie multiball' modes, 3 of those. You do get rewarded just for starting those modes, but get more if you actually COMPLETE the modes/multiballs. These are very complex/difficult. The 7 modes generally require about 6 shots or combo shots to complete. The movie multiballs require 10-20 shots to start and then over 20 shots each to complete!!! and IF you can successfully complete all 6 modes, all 3 movie multiballs, destroy the ring, There and back again (7th mode), you'll get to Valinor multiball, which most people will never see (I haven't seen this either of course).. We're talking playing for about 1 hour to get there.
Last night I was finally sucessful with completing the 1st movie multiball - fellowship of the ring... Hearing Gandalf yell to the Balrog - YOU.....SHALL.....NOT......PAAAASSS!!!!!!!!!!! was WAYYYYY cool!!! But that took a sequence of 18 shots to complete - and you must keep more than 1 ball in play during all that time!!!
You can light destroy the ring after you have started all 3 movie multiballs (you don't have to be successful)... then you have to shoot the ring, 2 ramps, 2 loops, ring (ball gets trapped in ring with magnet), then knock that ball out of the ring with another ball... You see what I'm getting at for complexity?!? Simply outstanding..
I love MM... But LOTR simply has more to offer..

I have to agree with Mike, I've spent quite a bit of time play MM myself at the different places as well and find LOTR to be a much better game. Don't get me wrong I really like MM but I find it very limiting. There is really only 5 shots total, the outer loops, Left and right Ramp, castle shot and catapult. Basically keep hitting those over and over again to gain the different levels of madness. Fun game but like I said limiting.
If you are a fan of the LOTR movies then a LOTR pinball is the way to go. The one thing I found the most amazing was how when playing the game it felt like you were actually playing through the movie. Every mode, every multiball felt like you were going through the sequence of events that happened in the movie. Then the difficulty surrounding each of the modes and multiballs also brings something else to the table. Also I really like the toys in the game as well, the magnetic ring, the Blarog, even the Path of the Dead and all the figured placed around the playfield, you really can’t go wrong with this machine.

Wow, I had no idea! Since there's none in Winnipeg that I know of, to test and there's no one I know to ask about it...well...
Anyways congrats Mike I'm especially envious after reading your last post and the one from Adam. Oh yeah, thanks Mike and Adam, I really can appreciate how a true pinball enthusiast rates a game. The first I actually realized this games popularity was from this site. I'll definitely be watching out for this game and putting it on my wish list.
As far as the movie was concerned it was definitely one of the best cinema experiences ever for me. Incredible.....I'd love to have a pin that has all of that in it and the voices too.
