I have a golden Tee "99" board that I LOVE.

I am 99% sure that this PCB can be updated to Golden Tee 2K with a EPROM upgrade, am I right?

Is there ant other game I can upgrade this Golden Tee "99" PCB to? Golden tee classics??

Yes and no...

Yes, you can upgrade to T2K by an eprom swap only,
but you also need a security chip which (...as of yet...), can not be copied.

This was purposely done by the manufacturer to force people
to buy the upgrade only from them.   (...go figure..)

I'd sell 100's of these if I could crack that security chip....

Cheers,
Steph

good to know. Are there any groups actively trying to crack this chip?

Not as far as I know...

The amount of work likely required to reverse-engineer the security chip
would most likely not get financially re-couped.
(...I'm guessing it could take several months of work.
And assuming a very modest engineer salary of $60K/yr,
you'd be looking at a cost of $10K easily...  )

You'd have to sell ALOT of chips at $10 a pop to make that up...
(...cause people won't pay $100 per chip either... )

I can't see this happening....

The other question to ask is: Would this be legal, and are there still licence owners anywhere.

Many company/lawyers, or their new intellectual property and licence owners, are protecting
their copyrights and licenced material (even if older), and will follow-up on any infridgment...

One example: Gottlieb LLC for instance.

Cheers,
- Sylvain.

Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron,

Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for
one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!

I'm sure the Mame dev team is working on decoding the later versions to work in Mame (2001-2006 versions). GTG up to 2k is alerady included in Mame, so someone has found a way to decode what is on the chips and make it work in an emulator.

Currently Owning:
Vids- Road Blasters, Road Runner, Joust, Golden Tee 2005
Pins- Back to the Future, Theatre of Magic, Joker Poker, Grand Tour, Hyperball

Previously Owned:
Vids- Far too many to list
Pins- High Speedx2, The Shadow, Mystic.

Yes and no...

The MAME team has the luxury of writing drivers that bypass the function of the security chip.

On a physical PCB, the data path is fixed across many ICs.
It only take one of those ICs to "encrypt/decrypt" the data.

On a MAME driver, you simply omit that part.

For instance the Ivan Stewart Iron Man Track Pak kit has a security chip,
but the game works fine in MAME with only the eprom files.
Unfortunately using those same eproms on PCB won't work.
