I'm looking to buy a juke box and am fighting the "which one" problem. Unlike pins, I just want to buy one and not worry about switching it out for a different one later.
Visible mech is a must, and ideally the "wurlitzer" kinda where the mechanism flips the record onto the platter. My wife is not so found of the Seeburg visible mech which has the vertical platter where the record is slid onto it.
Nice sound and good costmetic condition.
Refurbished and ideally minimal pain in ongoing maintenance.
Within 2-4 hours of Ottawa if possible.
Anyone have good suggestions?
This is almost a "Wanted To Buy - WTB" thread, but I don't know the make/model yet.
Most visible mech were made in the late 40s (playing 78 RPMs) and throughout the 50s (playing 45 RPMs). You probably want a juke that plays 45 RPMs (introduced in the early 50s I think).
AMI and Rock-Ola had horizontal platter during the chrome-era 50s. Seeburg and most Wurlitzer had vertical platters.
I have the old 'Dr.Know-it-all' Juke box Price Guide (1997) at home, it has a lot of pics that might guide what you want. I will try to remember to bring it at work tomorrow.
All jukes need repairs, especially the older ones now (usually need recap of amp, lube of mech, new cartridge or needles, etc.). Most boxes are fairly reliable once all done. Heavy !
Cheers, - Sylvain.

I hungered for one for the new games room, but decided i would build a digital touch screen one instead....finding 80's rock/metal hits on 45 would be tough!!!!
shoot. you can find almost anything on 45. believe me. i have quite the collection.
they are still printing 45's. i have loads of new bands in my juks. i hope i will always have a 45juk. cause the sound is what i love. i have two in the shop. enough 45's to fill eight or more juks.
I purchased a collection of 4000 45's recently. Send me your want lists and I can keep one eye open as I go through them...I've been putting them on eBay lately too....my eBay ID is speedcity....I also bought a 1955 Seeburg j two months ago....one of the best purchases I have ever made. Amplifier was rebuilt which is very important! It's very reliable and sounds way better then I expected. Needles are cheap via eBay as well.
Current line up.....
Bally The Shadow Bally Creature From The Black Lagoon Bally Freedom EM (Early Production) Williams Star Trek : The Next Generation Williams Whirlwind (Might trade for the right title...try me) Gottlieb Joker Poker SS (For Sale $1000) Williams Love Bug (For Sale $600) Williams Grand Prix Gottlieb Target Alpha Gottlieb Silver Slugger (For Sale $900) Seeburg 1955 100 J Jukebox 48 in 1 Cocktail
I'm collecting juke for almost 15 years now... and what I can say is most of the time a jukebox find you, you don't find a juke. IT's more rare then pin, so if you restrict your research in some model only, It will be probably very difficult to find exactly what you want and probably take more time. I had all four major compagnie in my collection (wurlitzer, AMI, seeburg and rockola) in 45 and 78 rpm, and every jukebox as is charm and quality. So look around and will surely find something you like, and maybe it won't be what you think first.
Good luck and ITs like pin, after one you need and other one
Bally Fathom, Centaur, Eight Ball Deluxe, Dolly Parton (for Lost vegas conversion project), Gottlieb Black Hole, Abra ca dabra, Game Plan Andromeda, Stern Flight 2000, seawitch, wurlitzer 700, 1900, rockola 1428, seeburg HF100R, vendo 44, midway monster gun, mystery score, mills High Top

I have a couple good connections for jukeboxes here in Toronto when it comes time, I can put out the word, but refurbished - these things don't go cheap!
I don't mean to HiJack your thread, but if you notice any for sale out West, Please let me know, I would be interested too. If I see any out East, I will do the same.

Cool - thanks Wayne. I'm o.k. with "refurbished" pricing (from the guidance Sylvain has given me). I'm not ok with "restored" pricing: $3900 for a Seeburg Model C - http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-bu.....C-W0QQAdIdZ154218244
I agree too Gino. I hear they are heavier than pins, but I see they weight about 325lbs. Jacks Jukebox in Guelph has a few, but Guelph's a bit far for a juke.
(I just hope I don't make the same mistake as my first pin in buying "The Professional". )
Hijack away - its not really a focused thread at all? Just don't call my mother names
jacks jukebox in guelph, great guy, thats where i got my seeburg, been working great for 3 years now

before the summer i sold two of mine. they were ok looking. but played nice. in kept the two i like the best and hope someday to upgrade them as well. but yep. they are adictive like pinball. not that bad to travel and move due to they usally have wheels. i even moved them way more then once with my van back in the day and even my pick up now a days. easy move in my books.

Jack is good people. Meeting him was a totally random occurrence for me, we happened to be next to each other at the fuel pumps at the Flying J in London one afternoon and he had the company truck, so we got chatting about jukes and stuff. I had a Rowe R-82 for a while, that my father-in-law now has in his basement. I love old 45 jukes.
Currently Owning: Vids- Road Blasters, Road Runner, Joust, Golden Tee 2005 Pins- Back to the Future, Theatre of Magic, Joker Poker, Grand Tour, Hyperball

I gotta agree... if you were going with a theme maybe it would work, but thats a little older than "MY" arcade/jukebox memories..... I gotta make something smaller and easy for everyone to operate, and I need music i like (80's rock and metal) my wife likes (Modern popular radio) and my brother in law likes (modern Rap, Dance music) I think the music choice makes it toughest to get 45's... Getting the stuff i like is tough enough, but 45 single copies o whatever 102.1 is playing this week, as well as albums by pharcyde and Bonecrusher would be a full time gig. Digital makes it EASY! even if i have to build it myself.
Besides, smaller jukebox means room for another pin or 2!
I have a Wurlitzer O.M.T (one more time) - it is basically a 1940-50's style juke with all solid state in it. It was made in the 80's. You can get them that play ipod but mine is 45's. with the actuator arm and etc. It is also a bubbler and looks great.
If you can find it, it has great looks and relatively new technology.
