Went to see this today. He is asking $50.00 dollars and man is it in nice shape. What is it?your wondering...well its actually an asteroids(at least same game I believe)....Well its made by Na electronics out of California vintage 1978 I`m guessing there but must be close.Machine monitor no longer turns on after their move so I`m guessing a loose connector, however I didn`t look inside. He said game plays blind so sound words and game plays but no picture. Its actually a dark blue METALIC painted fibreglass cabinet (original I would say).So if thats your thing cool and it would clean up super nice.It would be a real conversation piece if anyone is interested.Hope this helps someone STEEL out!

Hmmm... It didn't happen to look like this did it. The years do seem to be off though.

If so, it may be worth a second thought, I hear these have become quite popular with collectors.

Even without a working monitor, Computer Space machines tend to fetch well over $1k and often more than $2k+ on ebay.

No worries...
I'm not one of "those" ....

When the guy told me he sold it,  ...I thanked him for his time and hung up.

...and by the way, I'm sure it's a Computer Space ...  "NA Electronics"  is  "Nutting Associates",
the maker of game .

For $50, this is a far more incredible deal the than the aready incredible Mint GnR that sold for $1600 earlier today...

Dang, I should be reading on-line ads instead of changing diapers !

Funny..he was gonna wait for monday so I could check on a shipper. And yes it is a CS..talked to him about it extensively today. He thought it was an asteroids because of the shape of the ship.
Well... that sucks.

Funny, you ask others not to scoop you, but you just did that to me. Ask the guy if in fact he was talking to me. His name is Manny, mine is Andre. Would you do the right thing if he tells you I was before you?

And no.. I would not ship it across the country just to re-sell it. I have been looking for one for years. There is one in Edmonton but it was converted, and the guy won't sell anyways.

Hey Subby... what is the time on the PM I sent you over at cgcc asking if you could pick up a game for me? I also had a post on asking someone to pick this up under the shipping section here, but pulled it down after I saw your post. It had a bunch of views so I am sure others can back me up on that.

And Mark, I'm not implying you went out of your way and scooped me.. I'm just a little pissed to talk with this guy for half an hour about it and tell him to hold it and I will call him back after I contact a couple people and he just sells it. Its a little difficult to co-ordinate things from 3/4 of the country away in 10 minutes.

I spoke to Manny he said we have a deal. Seller indicated he doesn't have room and it needs to be gone I have his address and I'm heading there soon as phones me today/afternoon.

I'm asking respectfully that you leave it at that.

Thanks

Hey man..might have found a computerspace out in Kitchener. Can you help me out on this? I would be mucho in your debt.. send ya a Tron pcb set, a vector pcb of your choice????..or cash? or something else I may have you need.

Its a private sale so they would be useless in doing anything with it I would think.

Andre, I feel your pain.

Unfortunately in this hobby, sellers (especially non-collectors) will usually take the easy way out. The result is that the first one to pull up with money and a truck wins. We've all been in that position before.

From a seller's perspective "a bird in the hand" is only fair, particularly if they're practically paying you to take it away. And of course tester007 has sour grapes and is in mourning, but his beef is with the seller, not Mark.

A couple times now I've had sellers who've said "well I have this guy interested in Outernowheresville that wants to see some pictures or send a friend around and arrange shipping, but that's a pain for me, and I haven't heard from him in a day or two, but if you want to make me a fair firm offer now and come pick it up tonight..." (sorry Gory!) I think that's only fair.  I think it's also only fair if someone comes along, offers more and scoops a deal not yet sealed.  That's business. You snooze, you lose.  What isn't kosher is when sellers make a firm promise to sell and then reneg or try to up the price - but the trick is that you don't give them the chance to.  You take the chance and send a deposit by email, know which members are in the area that would do the favour, or take a day off and haul *ss to do the pick-up asap. Anything less seems negligent.

Man that is one butt ugly cab.

I know that cooke.. i've bought off you and there wasn't even a negotiation on pricing because you handled everything so there was no need to wait to agree to it.. I can certainly afford it and thats not an issue.. its just the getting things to where they need to go to be shipped on the other side of the country. People have offered to do it, and I would for them here, but decided I better check first because I know lugging a game around and prepping it is not my idea of a fun afternoon.
I just find it funny people talk about respecting not scooping someone, and I certainly would not do that, but then talk a different talk when the tables are turned.

I cannot do anything from here with people like that short of overnighting cash..i'm screwed...thats the thing. ANd I would be back to waiting until today to even get 'that' rolling. As a seller I just usually be sure to get seconds names and numbers..and the second the first deadline passes..

And ya, it 'is' a butt-ugly cab..and the gameplay is not really all that great. Just it is the 'first' commercial videogame and is close to a vector, which is my general collection aim.

But anyways..I've posted my part. whoever gets it, have fun with it. I'm not gonna beat this to death here.

I know you didn't know..not saying that.
I just posted ways to check if I was telling the truth to a fellow collector. I'll leave it at that.
It sounds like its in very nice shape and flippers dot com has NOS parts for it...post some pics when you get it and register it at computerspacefan dot com. I just hope we don't see this up on ebay in 2-3 months.

Yeah, if Mark had any idea that another member was also gunning for a game he would leave it alone.  It's just not his style.

And you won't have to worry about Mark flipping it on Epay, he would offer it up to Maaca/CGCC first.  (I can't remember the last game he sold via Ebay, if he's ever done that?)

tester07, we hear you, it's just the same issue getting pins from out west to out east here.  My point is, other than when a seller is gouging, I don't think you can fault these home owners.  They're probably already pissed off about getting rid of it, pressured by a spouse or a move or something - the last thing they want to do is wait, especially once they've made the decision to sell or have it cleared out.  So when a good collector comes along and says, I'll offer you $x, sight unseen (based on a discription) and I'll be out tonight/tomorrow etc to pick it up and help you haul it out of the basement ... well I don't see why they wouldn't.  Many of the sellers I have done this with have been extremely honourable, a number of times I get there and they say, "Since I talked to you I got 10 calls and each of them offering me more money, but you were here first and we had a deal."

I wish I knew the ropes better, that we had some van line options laid out and shared by members and maybe even a list of who'd be willing to collect and prep and for what price, etc.  Otherwise we're stuck cherry picking out own markets and what we really may want doesn't always come up.  I see things come up in BC all the time that I'd like to consider, but once you add on the risk of buying sight unseen, the prepping and the shipping costs, it hardly seems worth it.

What does seem worth it these days is to take a drive down to the States, at least as long as the dollar holds out.

Waiting to hear back from friend in Illinois where I got most of my stuff from already. He has 900+ games. May be putting together a 26 foot or bigger trailer trip with another collector from Edmonton if the prices are right. I'll drop you a line closer to that date as I know he has some pins..and his ship to me from there is around the 170$ mark (which is incredible) even if we cannot fit anything else into the truck. He's shutting down so hopefully he can be convinced to part out at a good price. I've let many people tag along on my orders to get the rate. you do vid at all?

No vids for me, I never really got into them, guess I got sore wrists and thumbs at one time in my life, but pinball was always my first love.

But yes I'm interested in glomming on to see what's available, that is a good price for shipping.

Yeah, if Mark had any idea that another member was also gunning for a game he would leave it alone.  It's just not his style.

D.

Well, obviously not true...I gave the opportunity and the means to check that out. he didn't have the game, had not transfered the cash, and I gave him an easy way to check my story which anyone interested in being half honorable could have done. I'll be the better man and not call and bid this thing up. even though I could use the same rationale and still have gotten it.. childish.
Anyways..not really interested in discussing it anymore.. at least glad its going to a good place from what I hear.. Interested in what the serial # is on it.

That 170$ is from Illinois to Calgary.. its probably even less straight up to your neck of the woods.

Look think what you want, call me whatever names you want etc. I was local and got it fair and square. I had already phoned the seller and made a deal before I even knew you were even trying to get it and well before I posted. The seller made NO INDICATION THAT ANYONE ELSE HAD PHONED/MADE A DEAL PRIOR TO ME PHONING Ask Steph he phoned just after me and the seller told Steph that myself and him had reached a deal.

I spoke to the seller and he said he wanted it gone ASAP as he moved to kitchener and it was sitting outside since saturday afternoon (It wouldn't go down his stairs. I'm glad the weather was nice for the past week). When I arrived and I asked he indicated that just a french gentlemen phoned (which was Steph) He didnt even mention that you phoned him.

I already had my truck loaded up and ready to go this morning. The first I heard of it was when I got to work and hopped on MAACA and I seen your posting.

I think this has been said before, but it sounds like the seller is the one to blame.  I have been in that situation before.  All ready to wrap up a deal only to find out that the seller had changed his mind, or price.  I've been slow to the punch with closing a deal, only to find it gone before I knew what happened.  It sucks.  The best is just to chalk it up to a lesson learned (like me passing on that $600 Joust pinball) and try to move on.  There will be other opportunities.

Ummm,  I would dispute that...
I lost my French "accent" at age 4 after years and years of Seasame Street.

Seriously, I would be  little insulted/embarassed if someone picked out I was French
when speaking English.  I would argue that someone else (other than Tester007 and myself) called.
(...someone who really does sounds French )

I'm guessing several people may have called about the game,
and the seller just lost track of who called.
(..he was selling other stuff too for which he probably got calls )

Steph

Hmmmmm..... I wonder if it was someone we are all familiar with, that we *oh so love* around here.
Surprising they didn't race down to pick it up though........

So what's the status on this machine now? I hear the power supply was repaired. Is it working yet?
