Well we got here at around 11:30 today, got a look at our Bank of machines, the B bank has a nice selection:
AFM TZ SPP Congo F-14 tomcat Tommy Dr.Who RBION BK2000
I've decided to go with TZ, SPP, Congo, RBION and then the 4th is a toss up for my bank of 5 games to go with. But at this point I thin I'm doing qualifying. I put it 4 really decent scores on TZ, SPP, Congo and RBION with a garbage score on F14. I think the scores will hold me for the rest of the tournament until Sunday, they won't be enough to net me a first place for qualifying but I think the will get me into the playoffs.
I saw Marc, Marty and tartagliag, as far as I can tell from the C standings only tartagliag has competed at this point. Good luck to you guys in the C bracket, C has a nice lineup of games.
No Fear Family Guy Fish Tales LOTR IJ GnR Sopranos TOM Party Zone
it looks like a good bank of machines.
I took some pics but not much has changed in the facality, I'll post them when I get some time tommorow during the day. I also keep everyone updated on how things are progressing.
Wish us Canadians luck, we gotta show the americians that Canadians know how to play pinball!
Adam is player #106, Frosken is #186, Spacecadet is #182, and Tartagliag is #192 (the #202 entry is an error).

We're back at the hotel after a long night (9-hour drive) and long day, playing and drinking...
We tried our 1st attempts tonight without any 'good' results... we had good score on one machine but we sucked on the rest.
Hopefully it'll get better tomorrow... Marty is leading our 'inner competition' with Gus trailing by only a few points and I'm wayyy back, although I currently have the top score on GnR.
One thing you people at home must understand is that all the games are in tournament mode, no extra balls, no ball saves and no 'chances'.
My Fishtales game didn't last more than 35 seconds.
Oh well, gota go....marty is beating up gus again...

Current 'working' lineup: ( 2 ) Flipper Football, The Shadow
Gone but not forgotten: ( 22 ) City Slicker, Dirty Harry, CFTBL, Big Shot, Big Guns, Black Rose, Judge Dredd, Indianapolis 500, Big Game, BS: Dracula x 2, Beat the Clock, Fire!, F-14 Tomcat, Getaway, Breakshot, Cheetah, Meteor, El Dorado, Nitro Ground Shaker, Chexx Hockey, Slugfest
well pretty much end of day 2, I'm down to 6th, so my scores are holding but I'm getting a little worried.
I've started to qualify again and haven't been able to string anything else togethor, I wasn't going to play Dr. Who as the flipper was really to weak, they've fixed that and now it's playable so I'm using that now, but oh man is that game evil!! You want hard games come to PAPA, there is NO BALL Save ever! Somce games have it but most don't. Congo is the only one with Ball save, by Dr. Who is so evil that even during your multiball there is no ball save!! It's insane, but TZ, RBION, and SPP have no ball save, so if you screw up you skill shot and it drains, kiss your ball goodbye!
I still love the challenege, but anyone looking at these scores and saying, yea I could beat those any day of the week, I endovor you to come down here and try because I'm positive you will be humbled by the experiance.
Anyway I'm having a blast, just hoping I can get into the pllayoffs.
The Ottawa trio left at 2am and then headed down to the room for some no-limit hold'em while enjoying a few brewskies...heading to bed past 4...
Like Adam is saying, if you're not here, you won't understand the difficulty settings, the 'no chances' features and the pressure of playing well on FIVE games in a row. You need to know the game rules inside-out and some of these "bank machines" are not 100%...weak flippers, slightly unleveled, etc. changes the 'physics' of some games.
I know I'm sucking the big one this year, but what counts is that I'm having fun, buying rolls of quarters and the ability of playing almost every game that ever existed with some great friends...
We'll keep you posted, or check out the live standings once in a while!

We wish you much success tommorrow...
However, when the unthinkable happens: a ball drain.. you need to borrow Lyman Sheats strategy.. Just means the next ball, you immediately do 99 consecutive loops to light the free ball and get your game back on track.
i still can't find the r.g.p article where Sheats wowed the crowd in Papa 4 with 99 delta quadrant loops but this is still worth watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFy9q988P08
I was watching Luman play today in the pratice bank, he was playing Getaway and he was upset with himself that after ball 3 he only had 863 million.
The sheer disgust in himself almost with such a paltry score! lol!
Well as I expected m 1st place didn't hold, I got beat out by a monster of a score and then another player even tho he was in third decided he wanted to be in second beat me out of second. No big deal as long as I stay in top 4 that will be nice and I will atleast get pick of machine for the first round of the playoffs.
The weird thing about first is that last year you were given a cash award for top qualifier, this year there is a shootout between the top qualifier in A,B, and C. So that meant if I stayed in first I would have to go against Lyman to try and win the $1000 Top Qualifer prize. I have no idea why they did that, they are pretty much just handing who ever is top qualifer in A $1000, I mean they might be a small chance in hell that a Top qualifer in B MIGHT beat an A player, but why even involve C??? It just seems kinda pointless, although it would be kind of fun to get demolished by one of the greats. But that won't be happening.
My other TOPL buddies arn't faring as well as I am.
John Flitton is in 14 place in B with me which will atleast get him into the playoffs.
Mike Clnton in is 30th place in C which isn't enough to get into playoffs.
and Maurice Pelletier who was forced in A this year after placing 4th in B last year is 37th, but it's A so really qualifying is going to be a feat and a half, but of all the players in TOPL if anyone was goin to be able to Qualify in A it would be him.
Also another fellow Canadian Sean O'Neil is in 18th place he was n 16 for a while, he might be able to get into the playoffs if he tries again some more tommorow before the end.
Also for those that don't know him Todd McCulloh who was a NBA player for 76ers is also Canadian and is top Qualifer, I played with him last year in C, too bad even with Top qualifer he wasn't able to come out tommorow as he has to broadcast for a 76er game, but this guy is a monster when I get home I'll post some of the pics I took of him.
Anyway it's been a good run thus far and tommorow is the playoffs, hopefully I don't choke and can atleast make it into a cash prize.
Well if you're gonna be forced into the A div next year it might as well be because you friggin WON the B!! Awesome dude!! So... 4000$US ain't what it used to be but do you plan on buying another pin with your prize money??

Hey congrats man way to go!!!!
Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.
Adam, Without even seeing you play.......by just checking some of the tournament results from the past I had a feeling you were an exceptional pinball player, not to mention collector/enthusiast. Well at least now I don't have to wonder. Congrats!
The 'Ottawa Trio' left on Saturday night as we knew we wouldn't qualify...and we finally didn't try any 'mini-tournament'.
We did our own 'papa tourney' by each selecting a game (FamGuy, Rocky, CFTBL) but nobody won as all 3 finished 1-2-3 on all 3 games, so we each took our $10 back and bought more quarters...
Maybe next year, I'll choose the level (B or C) depending on the qualification bank...I 'thoroughly knew' a few games in 'B', but only 1 in the 'C' (LOTR)...I was really hoping that my old CFTBL would have been in the C qual bank...but alas...
In any case, great to see a fellow Canadian AND MAACA member win the 'B'!!!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, I'm still on friking cloud.... I don't even know if they have a cloud that can describe just how estatic I am.
The finals were something else one of the most stressful times I've ever have to deal with.
The machines we had to choose from in the Finals were Wh20, JD, FG, and CV.
I had some luck on my side in the first round as I was able to come in second place with just 31 million on Wh20 and got 2nd place on FG with 18 million. I got 1st on Judge Dred with 180 Million. Which got my 8 points and into the semi-finals.
Then in the semi-finals I really stepped up my game knowing I couldn't survive another round with those scores. We started on CV and I put up a 33 million score which was good for first place, and let me tell you this CV was EVIL, it was an A bank machine and they had removed the left post! CV can be a bit of a drain whore to begin with on the outlanes but with no post anything in the vicinity of the left outlane spelled doom! Second game was FG where I was able to start Stewie Multiball in my first ball and my first trip up to the mini pinball, I ended up with 71 million on FG which assured me my trip into the finals. I then ended up in third on JD giving my self a grand total of 9 points to make it into the finals.
Lucky for me in the Finals everyone else who was seeded higher then my in the qualifying had been eliminated so I got choice of game. I choose CV and was able to take first place with 15 million giving me 4 points and a good shot at the title.
The second game I choose was Wh20, at the end of my third ball I had 150 million, and everyone else had closer to 20 - 30 million, if I got first again I was almost assured First place in B, I was pacing the facility as I couldn't sit and watch as my future held in the balance, after each lap around I would come back to find another player had drained and I still remained in 1st and the end I did get first and was well on my way to winning B with 8 points.
But now in the final machine there was a chance I might not get first, another player Jory had 4 points from coming in second the last 2 games, which meant that if I came in last and got 0 points and he came in first and got 4 points we would be forced into a tie breaker, as a result I decided to choose 4th for order instead of machine so I knew exactly what to do, Jory choose FG. But was forced to go first, if I beat anyone the title was mine and if anyone beat Jory the title was mine. On his first ball Jory ran into a malfunction with the mini pinball and as a result lost his ball in play. This meant that now after everyone else got done playing he got 1 last ball so in essence he voided my 4th position. At the end of 3 balls Jory had 1st, and I was trailing everyone, on the 3rd ball I started my stewie pinball and was bale to rack up a 20 million score beating 2 of the other players, I heard the applause from behind me and I walked away from the machine knowing that I now was a PAPA B division World Pinball Champion, once of the best experiences I've had in my pinball playing career.
Now I move onto the new Challenge of A, I'm going to go into A with the same drive I did with B this year hoping to just qualify for playoffs and take it from there, I can't wait until PAPA11!!
Funny ou should mention that, my first instinct was a to buy a SPP because I've been wanting one for a while and now is the perfect oportunity to get one, my other option I've be mulling over for a while is a Big Screen TV. I don't have one, I've never had one so owning one would be kinda cool.
I'm heading to best buy and future shop today to look around, still haven't made and decisions.
Also PAPA had to withhold 30% of my winnings, so I still have to jump through some hoops to get the rest of my prize money, it's similar to the stuff that Canadians have to deal with when they win Jackpots at Vegas.
Well if you're gonna be forced into the A div next year it might as well be because you friggin WON the B!! Awesome dude!! So... 4000$US ain't what it used to be but do you plan on buying another pin with your prize money??

Get a SPP...that way I can play it when I visit Plus everyone and their dog has a big screen (well, except for me that is ). You can always buy a big screen w/ zero down and pay it off over a year or so w/o interest. All the big stores have that option now...they want to move product. Buying a pinball on those terms isn't possible so the pinball makes more sense (and I want to log some time on SPP )
I agree with Duane, get the TSPP. Just think of all those big-screen TV's competing with Addams Family, Twilight Zone etc... in the early 90's. 15 years later...which is better to currently have?
Say 'yes' to classic Sterns. Complete MAACA-Wacko!

TSPP's can be had NIB. I'd rather uncrate a new pin than a new TV. By the end of the Christmas holidays, you'll be able to find 40" LCD TV's for under $1k (if you look hard enough, you might be able to find them now for that price).
The point is, you'll be able to scrape together the money for a TV any ol' time, but you can nearly afford a NIB pin now.
I've done the NIB thing before and I doubt I'd be able to find a NIB SPP for 4K after shipping and if it came from the US, taxes on top. I'd most likely go the HUO route and in the limited looking I've done this far I haven't seen any SPP in the local area.
I'm still leaning toward the TV tho, my other half also likes that option which is good because it would be nice to get something for the house instead of for my collection. I don't have the room for a new pin in the basment I'm pretty cramped in their with 8 as it is and while it would be cool to have the SPP the TV just feels like the better choice right now.
FS NIB Simpsons Pinball Party. Ohio or Expo New in Box Simpsons Pinball Party from 3rd run. $3900. pickup in Ohio or I can deliver to Expo. Trent trent at midohio dot net
You can make it an Expo trip and get your NIB SPP for less than $4,500 CDN with full taxes claimed at the border.
I keep flip flopping, now I'm thinking the SPP is the better choice, anyway first things first, I need to get the rest of my winnings released from the US goverment or I won't be getting either.
