I've "accidently" found a true original dedicated PP2 cab
(originally made by Atari Ireland for the UK market:
it's not a USA PP1 conversion kit )
and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.

At first, I was only buying the cab for parts,
looking  to spruce up my existing PP2,
but now that I have a better appreciation for what I have,
it would seem an awful shame to part it out.

The cab is noticeably smaller than it's brutish US conterpart
(almost a cabaret) and the artwork is totally different.

A picture can be seen on KLOV
(look for the 4th picture, the UK cab )

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9064

The CP is different in that it doesn't have
the "dashboard shroud" , and the bezel is also slightly different.

The game has the Namco boards, eventhough it was made by Atari.

Unfortunately the cab needs some TLC, and since I already have
a working PP2 (PP1 conversion kit), I'm not sure I want to
invest the time, money and effort to bring this one back.

The monitor is totally shot, and the harness is hacked and flaky.
The condition of the Boards is therefore unknown
but I'm told they may  work [wishful thinking there...]

I just picked it up tonight so I haven't had time to test the boards
by swapping them in my other PP2 cab .

I'm led to believe that a "genuine" dedicated PP2 cab is
somewhat of a rare commodity, so I'd sure like to find
a good home for it.

So at this point, I'm looking for advice, ... or offers !

Is it worth restoring ?
(..it would be neat to have a "rarity" in my collection,
and the size is certainly way more manageable to move around,
but with two small kids, my time is at a premium and this
could sit in my garage for months
...which would not sit well with da wife.... )

And if not a restoration, what to do with it... ?
Parting it out would seem like an awful shame,
but finding an interested party might not prove easy.

So I'm open to suggestions.

Reply back to this post or e-mail me directly  ( s_suys@hotmail.com ).

Thanks.
Steph

I suggest that you don't do it for the added value. Videogame prices have been dropping for a while. If you do it, do it for yourself, to have the satisfaction that you did it and it is yours.

That's the way I see it with my Robotron. I will NEVER get back the money I put into it, but I get all starry-eyed when I realize that I have almost finished restoring it, and that I will be playing it soon...

Get it and keep it! That cab is too cool to resist. Sell the wife by telling her how much kids love driving games. Take it from a father with three kids, the boys love playing driving games.

If you don't get it and keep it, I bet you will regret it down the road.

The cab doesn't look unmanageble. Clear some space in the garage and store it...months, years, even. If you like it and the price is good, get it.

That's my advice....from a guy with a complete non-working Robotron cocktail sitting in my home office....going on 3 years I think

Oh, I picked it up already !

The question is what to do with it now...

It "can not" stay in the garage (...or I'll be sleeping there too ! ),
and I don't have space in my Games Room to keep a second,
non-working PP2.

I'd love to save the cab, but unless someone wants it,
I'm afraid my options are limited.

Here as some pics comparing the two cabs  ( the "genuine" one is the smaller of the two)

Cheers,
Steph

You've seen my basement. I fall asleep there all the time. Love waking up to all the pins   Of course, I usally wake up and go up stairs immediately (I'm not in the "dog house"), but my wife always laughs that it wouldn't be much of a threat to throw me out of bed

Seriously, what's wrong with the cabinet. It looks good. If it was me, I would keep the smaller and more unique of the two. The side art is waaaay better and it is such a unique piece. I cann't imagine it would take much to take the working guts from one and put in the other (assuming the other isn't working). Or course, then you are getting rid of the original Namco boards.
