working on this atari tim 2000 pin.when i turned on the machine it went bonkers All the flippers , counter on coin door , pop bumpers go off repeatedly. score board is not turning on. I cleaned all the roms and noticed one was backwards. When I placed it in the same way as all the other roms the machine now turns on but the lights just flash and score board is not coming on.  any idea on what the next step would be to try? any help would be appreciated.
thanks

The EPROM which was inserted and powered-up backwards is now most likely dead.

Contact Steph on this board, he offers a great, reliable and affordfable EPROM burning service.

Good luck & Cheers,
- Sylvain.

I once reversed a sound rom on a WPC.  Blew a transistor.  Which wasn't so bad until the kids turned on the machine for 6 hours and melted a (rare) solenoid.

If putting a new one in does not fix it, you may have to learn to read the schematics.

You sure? What is this 4KB file on IPDB then?

http://www.ipdb.org/files/2567/Atari_Inc_1977_Time_2000_Game_ROMS.zip

Roms store the code. Bad roms = bad game code. If the system tries to execute bad code all kind of strange things could occur if in fact it is able to load it.

Were you playing around with the RAM possibly? They used to socket ram too since it was golden back in the day. Bad ram could also give you wonky results.

Sockets and IC's will have a notch, band or dot to indicate the correct orientation of the IC. Having them orientated the same way isn't necessarily the correct way. Check the socket or pcb for markings.

You can burn the roms on to 2716 chips, but you have to do a couple of minor board mods to make them work. The instruction to do that are in the zip file with the rom images. There are people in the USA that repair Atari pinball boards, but not too many of them.
