Kurt (Scapino) is one talented individual. Unfortunately, there's something in both my desktop and my cab that causes a bit too much stuttering in his DMD tables. They're still playable, but some people are getting perfect frame rates while my system is hiccuping. I blame it on VP's being too old.
For VP, if you like Scap's rendered stuff, I think you'll also appreciate jpsalas's efforts and some of his collaborative efforts. His TSPP is incredible, maybe the best table yet.
Future Pinball is pretty darn good, There are physics issues but if you take it for what it is, video pinball, it can be a lot of fun. The new 3 angels table is great. I also recommend a new pin that simulates the pinball 2000 "hologram" effect; it's called "Dark Quest". The ruleset is non-existent, it's basically just hit the hologram but dang is it ever impressive and I think the experiment works.
Future Pinball is limited though, no pinmame support, not now and maybe not ever. The physics as I mentioned have issues, specifically the nudging system is IMHO broken. However, one thing I learned is the physics system is VERY dependant on the CPU power and how CPU intensive the table is. For example, 3 angels has a bit of "floatiness" on it on my test pc, but the Dark Quest table plays with physics very near Visual Pinball.
Something to think about. For me, VP/FP will never replace real pinball but again, it's video pinball and for that, they both belong on my hard drive and will get playtime regularly. |
