I have an opportunity to purchase a MM but the owner doesn't want to part with it until later this summer. CP sold much quicker than anticipated so now a slightly neurotic ADD has an open space and some cash to spend. Two months seems like a long time from now. Is MM worth waiting for and spending a couple grand more or should I consider other options (like TSPP or anything else that may be available now)?
Ask yourself, for the same price today, would you hunt for one or would you rather hunt for something else ?
I dont knoww how much the local guy is asking but if there was a decent one local, decently priced i would certainly grab it, at least just for a few months to make up my own mind then sell it later on (considering you didnt overpay).
Here's my advice, secure you spot with the guy TODAY, and also, buy something else TODAY In two months chances that you are already bored of your new purchase are high, buy yourself a new toy meanwhile, thats what i would do. Buy the MM as soon as it gets available and play it a bit to make sure you want to sell another game to keep it.. or simply call me i will pick it up
Good luck
Currently owning: - Solar Fire, Medusa, Flash Gordon, (Centaur), No Fear ------------------
I think MM is worth waiting two months for, as long as the price is reasonable (for a MM that is...). Having said that, TSPP is a great game that will keep you challenged for a long time; you will probably never beat it, making it at the same time very frustrating. The advantage with MM is that if you end up not liking it, you probably will be able to sell it very quickly as they don't come up often locally for sale and are much sought after. I would personally would go with the MM as you could always pick up a TSPP later if you wish. A local MM for sale is very rare....
I'd wait for MM, just because I found it more fun than TSPP. Whether or not it's worth the extra $$, I dunno.
Have
Want
-The Getaway: High Speed II!! -Spider-Man -F-14 Tomcat -Guns N' Roses -Lord of the Rings -Twilight Zone
-Medieval Madness! -Indiana Jones (Williams) -Star Trek: The Next Generation -Champion Pub -Terminator 3 -Congo -Johnny Mnemonic -Tales of the Arabian Nights
MM's are next to impossible to find, at least for me. If it's for a price that isn't completely obsene, I'd jump on it, and think about whether I want to keep it or not after it's already in my house.
i think TSPP is a better game than MM, but nice TSPP's are everywhere. hell, stern is still manufacturing them.

I do recommend playing both (more than once) before committing. I certainly had two very different experiences when playing MM and TSPP and it changed my "perception" of one of them considerably. Your mileage may vary. How's that for being ambiguous enough not to be biased.
I own both and never expected to like TSPP (never watched Simpsons ever!) but bought it due to the variety and uniqueness of shots and the humour that can be enjoyed even without knowing the Simpsons. That said, my MM is my favourite DMD and will never leave despite many offers on it so buy the MM if decent price as another local one coming up is extrememly unlikely and if you don't love it - you can sell it easily. TSPP in nice to great condition are easily found if willing to travel, MM are not - even in the US.
TSPP's come up often. Doubt anyone will ever miss the boat on a TSPP if they are willing to pay a fair price. Not only that as Stern themselves state a high percentage go to HUO so even HUO should not be problematic.

High end pins don't always sell quick. Not everybody has that kind of cash lying dormant in the "entertainement" fund..

Wait 2 month and give him 1000$ of account just for to be sure.MM I think is rarely and if you have a chance to have one go for it and wait.STERN have always the new TSPP to sale. This is my proprely opinion but be sure to doesn't have regrets
wish list : Big house? yes big house, not the pinball gottlieb's,real big house for more machine

Normally I'm the Stern supporter, but I have to agree with majority. MM in decent shape are very tough to come by. If it's in nice shape and priced fairly, I would wait and grab it. You won't regret it and, again if priced fairly given condition, you should be able to sell or trade it if you don't like it.
There hasn't been one, but after the input there's no way I will pass it up. Playfield is excellent small touch up at Merlin hole, but other then that perfect, NO insert or flipper wear. Alot of posts said if the deal was reasonable to take it. Will need a cleaning and the cab needs a little love but 6300 including delivery to my house (1100 Km round trip) seems like a pretty decent deal to me. I'm still quite a noob though, what do others think?

That's essentially book rate less the transport. I personally wouldn't buy something that expensive without test driving it and taking it to a mechanic first, but if you are willing to buy it, then sure enough there will eventually be someone else willing to pay that price as well if you keep it in good condition. No one can decide for sure but you.

MM is a big purchase for anyone, but even more so for someone who might not have an experienced eye for potential problems or issues.
I remember when I first started, looking at a TZ for sale. The pics looked good (...to me...), but when I showed them to a TZ "expert" he pointed out many faults that I did not even noticed on the pictures.

For that kind of money, I would also be inclined to view it in person before committing to buy.
For me, there is usually a "price-to-pickiness" factor.
For $6000, I would be "picky", wanting to inspect it first. ( ...and honestly, for $6000+, I'd expect no wear on the PF. )
For $3000, I would be in the car, money in hand, ready to buy it pretty much no matter what the issues it might have... (...assuming the picture looked half-decent.. )
$6300 for a shipped MM, is not a "bad" price, but I don't think it's a screaming deal either.
I think the seller knows exactly what he has and priced it accordingly.
And as a final point, for that price, you might not have an easy time re-selling it yourself if you decide to unload it later on...
