What do you use to mount replacement score display tubes?  Obviously they originally used some kind of double-sided foam tape originally, but I have seen other people's fixes fail and I am wondering what is used that will withstand the heat and stay stuck until the next repair is needed?

Thanks in advance.

You can either use a good quality of double sided tape or you can use hot glue. I wouldn't recommend anything more permanent like epoxy as you wouldn't be able to get it apart again in the future if you needed to replace the glass again.

OK< I have the foam tape, I just keep seeing other people's jobs where the tape has come unglued.  Perhaps they don't bend the tube pins enough so it's always trying to spring off?

Yeah, you should attach the display to the tape / spacer before soldering all the pins in.  If you can, try to put a curve on all the pins before you solder as well, to try and remove as much stress from the tape / spacer.

Hot glue just doesn't seem right to me.  Prone to failure and I've been carefully picking it off a Williams Display from the Scorpion I am rebuilding.  Someone did a number on this one, likely on route, it's a bit of a mess (no offense anyone here, but if so you need a better soldering iron and quality solder   ).

The other thing that you need to be concerned about with the tape is that you have the two surfaces very clean and dirt/grease/oil free. Wipe both the back of the glass and the standoffs/boards with some rubbing alcohol before trying to stick anything together.

Thank you, yes I pretty much always clean up my boards with alcohol or Board Wash, can't stand burnt resin residue.

Just don't wash your PCB's with anything if using a "no-clean" solder!  (the joint will oxidise and look NASTY!)
