I recently picked up a book about how video games are manufactured off eBay.  It's written for a young child, explaining all the steps in order that things are put together, and how they work.

The nice thing about this book is that it contains photos of the Williams plant in Chicago, and loosely follows how Joust is assembled.

I have scanned the cover, book information, and relevant photos, and will include them here for your enjoyment.

Special arcade rooms are set up for testing new games

The artist is drawing a storyboard for a new game

A video artist is adapting a character to the video screen

A computer programmer is programming a new game

Empty wooden game cabinets are pictured here

The game assembly line is shown

In assembly, a woman is pushing wires into connectors, part of the cable assembly process

This is the installation of an electric power supply

Now there is the installation of electronics for the game

Pictured below is a man preparing to install the monitor

A worker installing the monitor

Pictured below are the insides of a completed upright game (likely the last minty-fresh Joust you'll ever see)

Almost completed games are being tested

Damn, is that a retirement village or a factory floor? Interesting that there are no young folks involved in the plant.
