I love randomness in pinball - bring it on. Long live shorter ball times. I like the idea that sometimes "the experts" get it handed to em by Newbs. My guests always complain that I am too good. |

One of the reasons I like later era Gottliebs - "the equalizers" ... but I wonder what Vengance has to say on this.... |

It's a balance. Too much randomness and you have a glorified slot machine, not enough and games can go on forever (if you're good). Personally, I'm a fan of the randomness introduced by magnets, as long as it's not always present, i.e. TAF and GNR. AFM and SM do it well with their relatively risky centre shots. But the IM design has me a bit nervous. It'd suck to constantly lose your ball due to something outside your control. At least in TAF and GNR magnets can only spoil your day during multiball (with the exception of seance). |

Actually from the Pin 101 DVD there is a cheat for the magnets in TAF |

My guests always complain that I am too good.
I keep hearing that from Vengeance and Pinball Addict at all the ToPL meetings. |

Hehe, ya, I was pretty pumped for it. Maybe Stern should produce a similar video and release it for free online. If people played better at pinball, maybe sales would go up. Or even better, have the videos running in the backbox! |

I generally don't have a problem with the randomness that magnets create. They are part of the gameplay and the player still has the ultimate control to nudge or move the game as necessary to avoid drains as a result of the magnets.
The randomness that really bugs me is random awards, randomness like that has no place in a competitive environment. Example would be a mystery award where one player is awarded 500,000 and the other is awarded a multiball. It's unfair and why Tournament mode should be turned on for all competitive games. |
