Why would someone go to all the trouble of restoring a machine and then house it in a crappy, drilled cabinet ? Didn't even bother to repaint the wooden rails on the playfield.
I find it hard to believe he invested $5000 in parts as well, unless he got entirely soaked. Even with generous pricing on the playfield ( $1500 ) and Backglass ($500 ), I'm hard-pressed to figure out where the other $3K went. LEDs, plastics and rubbers ain't gonna add up to $3K.

OMG... I have a buddy that is selling his MINT (and I mean MINT) Xenon for 3600$, but at least in his case the price is justified. The machine is fully original and not a scratch on it. Looks NIB. That one isn't.

I've done that, on a Fish Tales and a TAF.
Some of us just aren't as comfortable with cabinet work as others.
I've also always felt you don't play the cabinet so it's always the last thing I look at if I ever look at it at all.
I agree 100%!!! humm....took a quick look and found the right `p` clamp holding the tube is on the wrong side and missing the two chrome covers covering the tube entrance switch and led connectors.... and that was a quick glance a bit of bondo and cab rework might be in order for that amount...
14 pins Ahhhhh!,2 jukes, mame, table arcade,vendo39,gun game and ROBOTRON ---NO VACANCY!!!--- the Inn is full!

Spending $5K (?) on a Xenon is the same as spending $10K on a FT or $15K on a TAF. I'd like to think that if you spent that kind of money on a refurb, you would at least farm out the cab work. I've seen/heard how you like to do things. I doubt that you would put up a refurb like this on eBay and hope that someone else takes it the other 10% to completion.
Am I wrong ? Have I been living a lie ?
And your "Cab is last thing you play" line is getting tired. You don't really play anything excet the playfield and the boards, so why not just leave rusty legs, missing lamps, battered coin door and no backglass ? You could save a ton of money on some project machines !!! I've seen your collection. You shine up the "unnecessary" parts just like the rest of us, liar.
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)
Gone Fairy, Secret Service, Meteor x3, Title Fight, Eight Ball Deluxe, Bone Busters Inc., Seawitch, Starship Troopers, Strange Science, Arena, Hook, Pin*Bot x2, Time Warp, Motordome, Robocop, Black hole, Jurassic Park , Wipe-Out, Pinball Pro: Challenger I, Swords of Fury, Stargate, Party Zone

I never said the price was justified just that not everyone is comfortable with cabinet work. I have no idea on the value of what a xenon costs as I've never bothered to look into one, so I'll take your word that the cost is inflated.
so why not just leave rusty legs - I've done that, hell most of my legs are pretty crappy
missing lamps - That effects playability, feature lights out and GI out makes the game harder to play.
battered coin door - done that too, I'm pretty sure some of my coin doors are pretty crap
no backglass - Meh, the glass I do like having, doesn't have to be perfect tho, if for nothing else to block all the lights on the light board and just give the game a finished look
You shine up the "unnecessary" parts just like the rest of us - Yea but there is a method to my madness. I assume most of you do it because you want your game to look nice. I do it because I never want to do it again, so I clean and polish everything the ball touches so I never have to shop the game again. Not cleaning and polishing stuff would mean that there is still dirt on it, which means when I'm done it will get dirtier faster, which will then affect gameplay
So nope not a liar just different motivations. I'll vacuum out a cabinet just so no extra dirt comes up to the PF, but usually I won't go further then that.

I understand where you stand on this. I like pinballs I can play... not just trophies.
unless they've been repainted black or something old ones like Xenon look cool with a bit of wear and tear... its like it has part of the arcade history written on them. just like antique furniture , some things are better left original my .02 only on that!
