Sorry, I like to actually be challenged, rather then just bat a ball around like a chimp
It's too bad you're so narrow-minded, Adam. You'd probably be fairly likable if it wasn't so.
I'd rather have fun batting a ball around like a chimp than have to read a novel-esque ruleset and wind up just hitting posts between an a**-load of shots any day. I've really tried to like the games you adore, Adam. Trust me, I have. But for whatever reason they always just seem like soul-less crap covered in clutter and toys and befuddled by so many stupid rules that only the most devoted would ever find them fun. There are, of course, exceptions to that rule, but I still haven't found the fascination most have with the "A-list". And to be quite honest, I'm glad I don't get it. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose. Cheaper, too.
I get giddy when I find a non-working $250 classic Stern and turn my nose up when I enter a room with 10 fully restored 90's-era Bally/WMS machines. And that's what makes this hobby great for such a wide range of people -- it appeals to everyone for different reasons.

So it's the games fault that you can't hit a shot? That's like playing hockey and blaming your stick cause you can't score a goal.

I'm right there with you, I've tried to find something interesting about the void of a machine you seem to enjoy, but batting a ball around for no other reason then because you can just doesn't cut it for me. I need a reason to play, a purpose, something to do, not just "hit here because it scores points".

Who said anything about A list games, I'm talking more about a genre then anything, I have way more fun playing my BSD, Congo or ST:TNG then I have playing a CV, AFM or MM. Like you there are exceptions, Centaur is a good example. But there is nothing unique to these olders games, there all the same, yea maybe the flippers are placed differently, and one has an extra spinner here and few more drop targets there, but end of the day all you do is bat a ball around and hope to score points, no real point to any of it.

Well at least there is one thing we can agree on. Just reverse what your saying about a room of 90's era games to a room of 70- 80 machines
Glad you said it, Adam. Seriously, Corey you always get your nickers in a knot when it comes to old Sterns and post a rant about why they are great. Ok, you like them. Doesn't mean everybody has to.
I'm with Adam. The modern games are just more fun. I have a couple of oldies (EMs and an early SS), but they are more of a novelty than anything else -- at least for me. I tend to keep a couple of older games around for variety, and then sell to mix it up again.
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)
Gone Fairy, Secret Service, Meteor x3, Title Fight, Eight Ball Deluxe, Bone Busters Inc., Seawitch, Starship Troopers, Strange Science, Arena, Hook, Pin*Bot x2, Time Warp, Motordome, Robocop, Black hole, Jurassic Park , Wipe-Out, Pinball Pro: Challenger I, Swords of Fury, Stargate, Party Zone

You guys are hilarious. I just try to present the other side of the story. When someone stands up and proclaims that Bally/WMS WPC machines are da shiznit, and everyone else hops on the bandwagon because they can't think for themselves, there has to be someone to decree that the bandwagon ain't all it's cracked up to be.
I must say, as a classic pin / EM kind of guy, there's a hell of lot more EM/classic bashing than there ever is DMD/newer pin bashing. Mostly it's just Cooke doing the DMD bashing..
When I hear EM/classic bashing, I always wonder why the same doesn't apply to vids... everyone drools over a restored Ms. Pac..... so why don't the vid guys all hate Dig Dug and only love SF83 or MetalSlug19? Because they recognize a classic! IMHO, there's not enough value in pins done up super-fancy-pants - for very little return... but that's just my opinion.
I think there's benefits to both.. if you're looking to pick up a quick game of pinball in some spare minutes you have, then play a classic.. if you want to spend more than 15 mins playing one game, play a newer pin with more levels.
Think of classic Stern and Bally pins as "playing some shinny"
I'd also have to say that the complexity of newer games is part of the reason why it lost its popularity in the first place.. sure it's great for us players, but for the average monkey .. err.. "Joe", they just want to bat a ball around for a bit. I really think about 90% of the people out there who play a game don't really care what the rules are.

However, it is the right opinion.
I couldn't agree with you more, which is why I never "super-fancy-pants" any of my games unless they are keepers. You will never get your $$ worth out of a game like that, so it's a labor of love.
Just wanted to add also, the classics are much better at offering a more even playing field (pardon the pun) for an old fashioned 4 - person throw down.. as guys like me don't have the skills to attempt something like that on a newer machine with you pro's.. nor do I want to spend 1/2 hour waiting for my turn.
