I'm just about to ship a machine from Ottawa to Alberta and we found "Maritime Ontario" to be cheaper than Day & Ross (www.sameday.ca).
I've never used 'M-O'...I'll be able to give you additional info in approx. 2 weeks.

FYI, sameday quoted $290 terminal to terminal for a 4' x 4' x 5' crate at about 350lbs. That was the measurement and weight given from the seller.

You can buy a new car for $9999.00 You can also buy one for over $100000.00
Although both are cars, there's a difference between the two.
For the pricing discussed here:
1) crating (the one I'm sending is in a complete wooden crate.) 2) "dealer discount" (Dunno...maybe hardkor has an account with them thus better pricing? ) 3) Weight (did the Calgary terminal actually weighed the skid??? Shipping a pin means pinball weight PLUS skid PLUS packing material) 4) Taxes (no provincial sales tax in Alberta) 5) Fuel surcharge (was there a fuel surcharge when the BSD was shipped?) 6) rate change (maybe the rates increased since )
As you can see, too many differences to state "oh! you're getting screwed on the shipping".
I think $220 is pretty good, 'cuz my Flipper Football cost me quite a bit more than that when it was shipped from Vancouver a few years ago...when there weren't affected by any fuel surcharges.

I should say that for the extra $70 in shipping, the crate would hopefully mean the pin would arrive in one piece and undamaged. |

Couldn't you just get a skid from a local big box retailer or something for free? They must be swimming in them. |

I`m really surprised they will take it without a skid. Opens up the potential to damage from them dragging the game. Note to the buyer, pay the extra and get it shipped on a skid. Duane |

I agree. Get the skid and pay the extra. They will try to stack as much stuff on it as possible to maximize load. If it arrives damaged, you're screwed. No insurance. |

I shipped 2 machines WITHOUT skids, as per the buyer's request: He used NAVL and they were wrapped in blankets.
Now, my personal preference: CRATE / SKID
I'm positive there are alot of 'juicy stories' of machines arriving in...well...multiple pieces and MOST of them were not crate or on a skid.

The only time I had pins shipped with no skid or crate was when I moved. And I was there to watch them load and unload them from the truck. Other than that, it's at least a skid with cardboard and wrap. Crating is the ultimate but it can be dropped too so there's no guarantee.

That's strange, guess its too late, but Maritime Ontario never charged anything extra for a skid, they preferred to put the pins (in cardboard and pre shrink-wrapped is how I have done it) on their skids for you (and then wrap them again) as it makes it easier to load the trucks, even if they pack more than one persons items on the skid... they keep the skid at the other end. Maybe it depends what terminal you work out of. |

Nope...its the amount of extra floor space "foot print" that the skid takes up, that they charge extra for. |

I'm just saying that this wasn't my experience shipping a pinball and arcade video with MO (they didn't charge anything extra for "skid space" - everything went on a skid regardless), that's all. The price from Mississauga to way out East was about $90 if I remember correctly, but that may have been just before gas prices went through the ceiling. |

Dont know.... I'll I know is I called and spoke to some lady who asked for the dimensions and weight of the item being shipped, and then she gave me a price. Afterwords I asked "so does the pinball machine go on a skid or something", and she said..."we have skids, but they are (such and such) size, so it would cost this other price to ship it like that"....then she gave me a quote number for my inquires. |
