Part 2 in 720p for the finale (allows a slomo repeat at the end):
Long exposure stills photography:
I took a break from my astronomy and RC plane hobby ("forced break" ... lousy weather and guests from other continent...) and decided to dable in photography; both via my recent purchase of a pocket HD video camera AND via taking stills. Pocket HD cam is fantastic, it's waterproof and loads of fun (and a great price); see my youtube channel for examples of it underwater. Although it's not great with low lighting, it worked ok for the fireworks.
For the stills, this isn't the best fireworks stills you'll see but they are pretty good and it was a good learning experience. Was tough doing both at the same time though. Don't forget due to the HD, expand to full screen (if your PC can take it) to take advantage of the higher def. For standard 480p, it still looks pretty good.
Hi Wayne. The stills are from my Canon EOS Digital Rebel (which I've just started using for Astro-photography 8 months ago). I'm pretty impressed with the pocket HD's 5mp stills, but there's no settings available at all, so no ability for long exposures, ISO, etc. If it's anywhere but outside, it's not a great solution. That's ok, I did not get it for it's ability to take stills but in a pinch, it does the job.
I got tooo drunk to make the drive down Glad I got to see them, thank you
