so I purchased my 80's fan speaker kit and installed it. the whole process taking your time doing it right took an hour and a half. first part was removal of the old sub and replace it with the new one, leaving the old wire harness there (not used). installing the crossover which was glued to the bottom of the cab no screw holes. installing the l-pad to the cabnit divider, the cabinet part was easy. fishing down the new speaker harness and pluging it in to the right places all was well labeled. the new speaker panel was a little more time consuming with the removal of all pieces to place them on the new well machined speaker panel. the plexy part of tha panel just came off didnt even feel like it was stuck on. had a little trouble with the nails that was holding the speaker grills on but a flat head screwdriver worked well.

In all was a fun upgrade and I am really satisfied with the result. the sound is more balanced and defined, the base is not over done which is what I like, nothing shaking the machine apart. I recomend this kit for those who really enjoy the sound it is the cheapest kit with quality parts on this side of the border and I am really happy to support our Canadian contributers who really do this for the hobby.

Yes, I'm quite looking forward to getting my kit and trying it out on my TZ too.

(...can't wait to play LITZ with the sub thumping ! )

I'll be sure to give an update when I'm done...

Cheers,
Steph

HAL-9000, I put together the kits.  But they are only for WPC machines.

For the older machines, you can buy Pinball Pro solutions for all your older Pins but they do get expensive.

What you can do, is just buy replacement speakers for those Pins if suitable ones can be found say at AddisonElectronique so that they at least sound a little bit better.

Thanks.

Vids: Crystal Castles, Gauntlet/Gauntlet II, Donkey Kong Jr., Ms. Pac-Man, Vs. Super Mario Bros. (other Vids in storage - for now)
Pins: White Water [WH2O]

I too was considering a speaker upgrade for my DE Laser War (it's getting a major overhaul), to pump up the base a little.  The alnico speakers it came with are not bad, but really need to be re-furbished, so I was thinking about just doign a straight replacement, but does anyone know of any sound/speaker improvement projects done for these older Data East machiens?

many thanks,
