Hi everyone, in an effort to fix the error 500, i removed the site search button.

From my understanding, it is what was causing that error.

Please, if you ever get the 500 error again, please notify me.

EDIT: i will try to add a google search box in it's place, it can be configured to search the site only.

Allright, the site's search button is now gone and replaced with a Google search at the top, which search ONLY in MAACA urls.

This opens another page with results from Google...

Let's see if this is more stable and let me know if any problems.

OK, apparently, replying to PMs is breaking it as well, at least for PinsOnly.

Is there anyone else having the 500 error when they reply to their pms ?

I will try to fix Dave (hopefully) and everyone having the issue.

Well you can still search using the Google tool i added on top. It will will search through MAACA results only, it might not be up to date to the minute but should have pretty much everything archived.

The issue with this software is that it is flat file based (not MySQL or any databases). So the files keeps growing up and up to a point where the server's memory get used too much while searchign through everything.

I cannot change it without losing stuff, there was a beta MySQL version a while ago but it wasnt working well.

I also decided to leave it this way, in order to keep everything, rather than moving to another script (phpBB). It's a matter of free time and also i think it was too different than the current board and i didnt wanted to lose any members in the process.

Yes moving to another isp would maybe help but at the end of the day, the files will keep growing and hit the sweet spot on the new server where there wont be enough ressources to search either...

Hope it all makes sense (and that i didnt make too many spelling errors

This has happened to me a couple times as well.

sooo when are we doing the shift over to the new software?  This site software sucks!

Just use Firefox-spell check is built in!  

Google search sucks IMO

Doesn't have any of the good search options that the normal search had.

Can't search by forum, can't search by member name, stuck just searching for something generic and hoping you can find it in the mess that Google returns.  

What ever happen to the plan of turning this site into an archive and just starting a new one?

IMO the search feature was pretty good, even if the site would crash from time to time.

How about it's enabled only at night between 10pm and 8am? Maybe it could survive the less traffic then (or whenever there's less traffic).

I've used google today and found what I was looking for...

Site wasn't crashing everytime someone did a search.

The site was crashing a LOT, and if it's because of the search, and there's a workable alternative, then it's gotta go.

I hope the Google Search ad revenue is going to maaca, and not being kept by Google. I heard it can be substantial. Another reason to use Google Search on the site.

Bring back the search, regardless of crash factor.  Adds to the  "milieu" that is MAACA.  Google sucks  (it harbours "old" stuff)

Just typed my username in google search and got 16 pges going wayyyy back ...  

I'm assuming it's anything requiring a lot of resources at one time (like a search or looking up posts by a member, that sort of thing).  There's a lot of traffic on the site too - so while you may do something you "think" crashed the site, it could be any combination of things and visitors.  Obviously we need to switch to a more robust BB software - unless we're just willing to "live with the devil you know."

The forum software is the issue.    It sounds like the databases are getting too large.. and as more and more members sign up, it's only going to get worse me thinks

I wondered why everytime i went to do a search it crashed with some internal error
