"Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson said in an interview that most of the buildings that housed arcades, T-shirt shops and restaurants were lost in the fire that started about 1 a.m."

The arcade was closed. Dave Astill ended up with a lot of the games that came out of there. For some reason the units they were in were left vacant. I was toying with idea of opening it again. apparently it went out of business for reasons other than the business itself. Always seemed to draw a crowd. Location was right, but seasonal.
Take this: Many of the buildings that were burned were slated for demolition in the next couple of years, if an ambitious $350-million redevelopment project proposed by Dov and Armand Levy, the town's largest property owners, goes ahead.
Plus this: He said that when police and fire officials were asked at a local new conference whether the fire had a suspicious origin, all they would say was that the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the situation.

Translation: The Levy brothers wanted the land RIGHT AWAY for their project... and it wasn<t going to be a couple of nickel-and-dime shops, 5$ t-shirt outlets and a closed arcade that would stop them.
Besides, read this part: Unfortunately, they are not going to be able to buy any T-shirts and stuff. That was major revenue to the community.
BWWAAAAAHHAAHHHAA!!! I honestly believe that the mayor of Wasaga Beach thinks Torontonians are complete morons. What rakes in more money for a city... a 5$ t-shirt shop, or a 350-million dollar project? I know for a fact that city officials get "greased" on such projects. Out of 350 million, what difference does another 250000$ to bribe officials to look away make on the grand scale. I have 2 friends that work high up in city councils... one just had an inground pool installed last summer by a local pool company that was just DYING to get their hands on a certain lot in town. He told me flat out it was a "gift".
Detective Sparky doesn't need to investigate anything... that article says it all.
