Meh.. it's a common mistake, I'm sure.  You shouldn't let it bother you..

People mistake me for "Brook" or "Rock" all the time, doesn't bother me (pretty funny names though).

Your problem is a simple spelling issue.. Like "Shaun", or "Sean", or "Shawn".  Blame your parents.

Just be thankful your name isn't "Richard"

Considering changing my name legally to "Richard Cranium"...just to see how many people "get it"

Also has allot to do with the fact that every Jonny I've ever known has always spelled their name Johnny.  If your username was jon_eh I don't think anyone would be adding the extra h.

So I blame you for spelling your name wrong

Exactly what i was thinking . It ' s the "NY" that makes it confusing . Never realised it was "Jonny" . My brains always saw "Johnny"

As a person who's name largely relies on the "H"
(... otherwise I'd only be mere "step"  ),
I think the "H" in "John" is a blatant abuse of consonants !

(... don't get me started on "Knife", "Pneumatic" and "Gnat" )

So I say keep it simple and forget the "H"

Cheers,
Step

My Gr. 12 and OAC English teacher was Richard Facer.  What the #^%$ were his parents thinking?

Quoted from wbradley
Heard a while back there is an attorney in the US whose name is private Smoker. Doesnt even bother using the name Richard.  At least he knows who he is.

Pffft... I don't know what you are all complaining about. Try living with the last name Goodick for a while. You wouldn't think it'd be difficult to spell but I constantly get butchered pronunciations & spelling mistakes.... I guess people panic when they read what looks like 'good private' and figure it must be a misprint so they make their best guess correction.
Just off the top of my head I can name a dozen misspellings I've had to endure.
goddick (close but not quite... almost sounds the same though)
godick (most common error... guess it takes too much ink to and in the 2nd 'o')
godrick
goodich (damn, you can never seem to scratch the right spot can you?)
goodlick (a personal favorite... paging mr goodlick... mr goodlick, please come to the front desk..)
goodrich
goodrick
goodwiak (got this one a few weeks ago on a human resorces memo @ work)
goodwick
goodwin (oh come on... you're not even trying now)
gopdick (my Safeway savers card...which I now refuse to use)
hyriodick (this was on a letter from my insurance company...good thing I wasn't trying to make a claim)

Funny thing is Goodick isn't even correct. The proper spelling is Godeke but was this anglosized 1783 when the first family member came to Canada. Guess they were afraid people would always spell it wrong
