Just purchased a Grand Prix pin at the last auction. The playfield was extremly dirty, cleaned it up and noticed the playfield is scuffed and dull from the lack of cleaning and proper waxing. My question is how can I remove the dullness and bring back the factory shine ???
Thanks Wayne |

Not really. Factory finish involves massive polishing if the playfield is not worn, or a clearcoat. Why don't you post pics of your playfield?
Is it a Stern Grand Prix or an Em Williams Grand Prix? If it is a Stern, you can use lots of Novus and then carnauba wax. |

Then the polishing kit is a great way to go. Cheapest? Novus 2, lots of elbow grease, carnauba wax, and more elbow grease. |

I have it, it works a treat to clean diamond plated playfields. I polished up Capcom Pinball Magic (without clearing the playfield top) and it worked quite well. I haven't really used it to "complete" a shine in the same manner they use it yet though as I've been working on older machines mostly. I believe these are basically 3M polishing compounds or equivalent (but I don't know this for certain). |

The small polishing discs are hard to source from the local haunts (such as Can Tire), but they are common items available online in the US for sure And possibly off and online here in Canada through auto detailing suppliers. |

Clay recommends a site where you can buy it cheaper... can't seem to find it now, I think it's in one of the top tapes |

How many pins can you usually do with a Treasure Cove kit? |

I've done about 6 or 7 pins thus far with the TC kit and I still have about half the compound left. |

You didn't see the pics? I'd say it works pretty good! |

If you search through some of my threads, many games I've worked on have all seen the TC kit at some point. Most recently my DM got the TC treatment which had never been cleaned in over 14 years! (I removed as much of the dirt as possible with a citrus based cleaner before the TC kit, so as not to 'burn' the dirt into the clear) I think the best results I've seen personally from the TC kit was on a Getaway PF, which has a LOT of black and is where you would notice any sort of haze or swirl the most. This specific PF had been neglected and I'm guessing the balls had never been changed in it's lifetime, and the TC kit removed most of the 'haze' out of the black. If you're going to be shopping out more than one pin, this kit is worth the $$. (the compounds are *supposedly* a TC blend, the rest of the kit is off the shelf auto detail stuff) D |

I wonder if you could get the same results using Novus instead of the "TC Blend".. has anyone tried that? $80US plus $30+ seems a little hefty a price tag, but then I'm not sure exactly how much the buffing bits cost. |

Novus has a similar grit type, but I am guessing (by the smell and the greater efficacy on the grime), that the TC product contain more solvents. |
