NBA has already been released. It's my understanding that the next theme after NBA will be Big Buck Hunter.
And after that dismal failure, I'm pretty sure the next theme after BBH will be a really fun game called Bankruptcy and Foreclosure. I hear it will have Chapter 11 multiball and a neat hurry-up mode called "Follow the Bouncing Cheque".
Wonder if BBH is going to be a rework ala FG/Shrek?
Shrek was a rework of FG. NBA a rework of Space Jam. I see a pattern forming here.
Probably. Funny thing is BBH the video games are HUGE in the US. I personally find them boring as all hell. But then again, I am not big on hunting. But the games are slow as hell.
There is a turkey.
Shoot the pale one, it is a male.
Congrats. You shot the turkey.
... it's like a shooter game on Ritalin.
But hey... in the southern US, I guess they love it, so chances are the pin would be a success even if it is a rehash, merely becuase of the theme. Slap some camo paint on the cab, put a couple of plastic shotguns here and there on the playfield, and change the beer can for a turkey. You are bound to see one in a good-ole-boy bar.
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)
Gone Fairy, Secret Service, Meteor x3, Title Fight, Eight Ball Deluxe, Bone Busters Inc., Seawitch, Starship Troopers, Strange Science, Arena, Hook, Pin*Bot x2, Time Warp, Motordome, Robocop, Black hole, Jurassic Park , Wipe-Out, Pinball Pro: Challenger I, Swords of Fury, Stargate, Party Zone
WTF would a Starburst guy know that the rest of the internet wouldn't? Salesmen know nothing, in my experience. They just make mess up to make their customers feel special.

-The Getaway: High Speed II!! -Spider-Man -F-14 Tomcat -Guns N' Roses -Lord of the Rings -Twilight Zone
-Medieval Madness! -Indiana Jones (Williams) -Star Trek: The Next Generation -Champion Pub -Terminator 3 -Congo -Johnny Mnemonic -Tales of the Arabian Nights
And that BS about someone in Australia buying Stern...it's crap. Was a prank to make fun of Wayne and his moles. Buying NOS parts from IPB is money in the bank. Buying Stern is like hating your money and burning it right now.
Knowing Gary...he is probably making a Beverly Hills 90210 pinball. After all, his previous company made a special pin for the creator of the show.
Come to think of it... I am trying to think of pinballs that became hugely successful from a TV theme alone.
Twilight Zone ? ?
Seems to me The Simpson's Pinball Party is a pretty succesful Pinball/TV series combo, Same with Family Guy. Addams Family although the AF Game is based on the 1st movie which is based on the TV Series, Some pretty popular titles and good games there.
Dave
Here are games I would like to acquire this year, or sometime...
24 Iron Man Attack From Mars Prefer Pounded playfield! Monster Bash Prefer Pounded Playfield! Elvis Sopranos Batman Forever Spider-Man Stern Prefer Pounded Playfield!
Have these available for trade or possible sale: Corvette South Park Theatre of Magic Twilight Zone RFM/SW:EP1 Nucore Combo AFM
Further to Pins Only comment, the original DE Simpson's made money hand over fist. I remember when it was first put on location in the University arcade. It had a HUGE line up of people waiting to play it. The next time I saw that kind of response to a pinball was RFM. I miss that type of public excitement about a pinball
The trouble with themes right now is that pinball is pretty much a non factor in terms of marketing value. The real good themes right now like Harry Potter, Transformers, Star Trek don't want or could care less about pinball. And Stern wouldn't be able to afford them even if the licenses were available. So you're stuck with remakes. There's already grumblings that some distributors are blowing out CSI's and 24's and NBA's. That pretty much tells ya the state of Stern right about now. I don't think redoing FG will help when it was all that successful in the first place. LOTR will be alright but not a Stern/pinball saver.

?Do you have a link???
I want a CSI but not at full price. If the blowout is similar to the WPT/WOF then I'm in. I just haven't seen any references to this on RGP. I assume it's an American distributer you are talking about. Post the link please.
I heard that it will be a "Andy Griffith Show" Pinball..... focusing around the Town of Mayberry and having Oppie, Andy, Aunt Bea, and of cousre Deputy Barney Fife, Gomer & Goober Pyle...
Should be a SMASH!!!!
If not that, perhaps Sanford and Son?????
That's what I heard anyway... and NO - I will not reveal my sources.

I did a search on rgp and there was a discussion with Premium Pinballs stating he knew some distributors are "blowing" these titles out. Kind of surprising as 24 is really fun. I don't know about the other titles as I haven't played them.
You know what? I have no problem with reusing existing designs like they did with Shrek. Of course, this will diminish any sales on the collector side, but I am sure that distributors don't care.
As for releasing reissues... I don't know. I guess if it is done within a close time frame of first production, sure. But LOTR was first produced in 2003. The movie is long gone. People don't care about the theme anymore, thus distributors won't warm up to it. what they should do is put a new theme on an LOTR design, new DMD animation and then they are done.
And use an original theme. The money you save on licensing stays in your pocket. Who cares about 24 (first aried in 2001...), Family Guy (already cancelled once...), CSI (first aired in 2000, in their ninth season...near death)? Movie themes? Same thing... when is the last time ANY of you looked at one of the LOTR movies? A couple of years? Shrek is cute and all, but can we move on, especially after the third movie?
Another proof that heavy licensing costs burden the machine... Indiana Jones. Everybody complains that it is overly simple and seemingly incomplete. Maybe it is because Gary blew the budget on licensing.
i don't know... I am kind of getting tired and overall unimpressed with all the new stuff coming along. Unless some fresh ideas come along, Stern is doomed. Sorry to say.
I still believe Williams had it right with P2K, and even better today with Nucore. Someone at Stern needs to come up with a new pin design that is way more cost effective, like using a generic main harness so all yopu have that is custom is between the light/solenoid and the harness, use LCD screens instead of DMDs (used for the last 18 years!!!), use a simple computer with custom software instead of custom boardsets for which parts are impossible/hard to get.
Hey gary... you like to brag that your pins have more wiring than a Ford Taurus... well, start building them more efficiently by having more common components and simple hardware like on cars. Man, I have no idea why no one has done this yet...
I don't know why they haven't gone to addressable devices and gotten rid of that wire loom. Even if they put in a couple of expansion boards to reduce the wire between the pf and the head.
I wouldn't be bragging about the amount of work required when your just going about it in a way that is just plain dumb.

LOTR *is* being reproduced.. it's a LE version, limited to 300 with gold-mirrored backglasses and numbered certificates of authenticity.

At Chicogo expo there was a rumour (or wishful thinking) of an Ironman vs Hulk pinball to coincide with the upcoming movie release. It does have some potential for some interesting ball lock toys.
