I was reading this month's issue of The Pingame Journal and it showed a bunch of pics from various pin shows around the USA.....Anyways, there was a picture of the SRP booth, and on a "SRP banner" it had all of Steve's games written on it...and guess what? Right after 24, was written "Avatar"...

No duh. Steveo sells the CAD drawing of the Avatar playfield he designed. He's been selling them since before the movie came out. Basically, when he got booted they cancelled the game. Big mistake!

Avatar pinball, you as player are the hero Jake Sully. Capture the pinball in the transporter link, a case that reveals a Jake figurine, and transform yourself into his Avatar. Then, after a series of challenges, get past the motorized up/down target bank protecting Colonel Quaritch and fight the Colonel in his AMP Suit, aiming your pinball at him. As you overtake the Colonel, his AMP Suit crashes to the ground and you save the Na'vi people from total destruction. Avatar pinball also features a twisting ramp, the magnet for random ball play, and lots of multi-ball action.
Avatar pinball has lots of great sound, including speech and sound effects from the movie as well as original voice over by actor Stephen Lang, who plays Colonel Quaritch in the movie.

I agree. Contrary to IM and SM which are movies based on a classic comic book series, Avatar is but a movie. And not only that, but a movie that has come and gone from theaters and has been on DVD for a little while.
Too bad they never made a Harry Potter game. Not that everyone would love the theme but given the many areas to draw from, magic, quiditich, monsters, etc. the oportunities were endless for really great features, modes and toys.
Current Lineup: Black Knight, Riverboat Gambler, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Flintstones, Orbitor 1, Wipe Out, Breakshot, The Simpsons Pinball Party, Fish Tales, Eight Ball and a 60 in 1 Cocktail.
I wonder if they will cut back on the number of toys. I would be interesting to see Steve Ritchie's playfield and then compare it to the final product. I suspect that it will be different from what Steve had envisioned.
Own Magic, Star Gazer, Batman Forever, STTNG, Mystery Castle (project)
Gone Fairy, Secret Service, Meteor x3, Title Fight, Eight Ball Deluxe, Bone Busters Inc., Seawitch, Starship Troopers, Strange Science, Arena, Hook, Pin*Bot x2, Time Warp, Motordome, Robocop, Black hole, Jurassic Park , Wipe-Out, Pinball Pro: Challenger I, Swords of Fury, Stargate, Party Zone
Well, it was like the most successful movie of all time (financially) and there are sequels coming so they can re-issue it with each new flick. I don't think it's a bad choice at all, IMO.
Currently Ownin' The Addams Family Terminator 2 The Getaway WWF Royal Rumble (Yea! Yea! Ohhh yea!) Black Knight -New/Project Gorgar -New/Project Strange World King of Kong Themed MAME Cab Chexx Bubble Hockey
I think this game offers tons of possibilities. I am looking forward to the screenshots of the playfield. Does anyone know how close they are to production? (and when I say "know", I mean what are the rumours? )

I agree. Avatar, while being a successful movie, does not mean it will be a successful pin. Titanic is #2 but I doubt there is a burning demand for that either.
Looking at the lists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films it would seem that most films in the top 20 have had pins made about them. But then if you look at the list at the bottom, the top 10 biggest grossing films, adjusted for inflation, only 2 have been made into pinballs (Star Wars and JP).
I hope Stern doesn'tt read that list...maybe they will try to license 'Gone With The Wind' or 'The Excorcist' next?
I do have hope, being originally an SRP design, that is should have some merit when released.

i was really hoping for a Muppets pinball, i prolly would have bought one if statler and waldorf were on the playfield.

I wonder how similar this is going to be to IM with the battle suit taking the place of the Iron Monger?
Could be a fun game, but strictly from a theme point of view, not as cool as a muppets pin would have been. There have been plenty of great pins based on bad movies though, so we'll see what happens when the game comes out.
As long as I don't have to wear glasses to play it I'll be happy

There is a pic of the playfield on the Steve Ritchie site (link below). It looks like Stern has changed it because on his drawing it seems that there are 2 ramps.
Sounds like it. I don't see the three bank drop target ala AFM in that drawing. 3D backglass, are we talking layered like SS or something vacuum molded or some other effect?
Exorcist would be good. Stern could put the whole head on a swivel.
do you guys buy your nib from starburst or somewhere else
Depends on the dollar at the time. I've bought NIB from Jack at Pinballsales, and both Starbursts. Also Chris at Cointaker offers a great deal (better for good customers of his LED's ) on NIB. Use the US price to get a better one from Starburst. Works within reason. My Ironman was comparable to the US price of $4000 before taxes offered at Allentown this year.

You mean to say you talked SB down in price based on their competition? I don't know why I'm at all shocked about this, but for some reason I just hadn't expected to be able to haggle on NIB Pins pricing.
