save the difference and buy real gold - better long term investment.

It will cost you way less to have all your parts plated with brass. Nobody cares about the gold editions anyway. Premium price for no difference.

I would disagree on that point. Take a look at Black Spiderman. The normal edition has a much better picture on the translite yet the Black Edition sells for a premium. Same can be said of Gold TAF. Regular edition looks better yet sells for thousands less.

If you look at it from a collector perspective, it is likely the Gold Edition will be worth more than a normal edition. So from that point of view upgrading might make sense.

Personally I would rather save the money and keep the regular LOTR. I have a HUO LOTR and I'm perfectly happy with it. No desire to upgrade. But I can see why someone would want to.

This SE is just a way of dressing up another run, where they can't make it the same as the originals.  A chance for those who missed out previously.  I like the idea of the real backglass though, the rest just doesn't matter.

I still maintain that it should be sold to me if you decide to go with the special edition. Lol

If you are going to get the Gold LE version I would try quickly to find a set of the replacement plastics with the holes and a set of the figures.  I just see the game as very naked without the figures on it.  I know of a  distributor who has the extra set of plastics and extra set of characters.  When the NIB GLOTR come in they are going to remove the existing plastics and install the replacement plastics and mount the characters on it.

Now THAT is the machine to look for and keep!  Also THAT will be the rare machine worth some serious $$ in the future.  IMHO - - -   Will probably sell for $6500 US though

... and not trades allowed

Why don't you keep your HUO LOTR and keep the LE as NIB.  That would be worth something down the road.

That's a lot for a backglass.

Who you trying to impress you or someone else? I would be unimpressed paying that kind of money for a BG.

It's the same argument I have for opting for a TAF vs TAFG. I prefer the TAF colours. The only reason for the "G" would be bragging rights and to me it just ain't worth the extra for it.

SMB I would say offered a better overall package for the premium. Chrome, shaker etc. This offering of the LE has little more to offer for the extra money.

That's pretty much it... bragging rights. when I said it will not gather much more money, of course, there is ALWAYS an infinitessimally small group of collectors ready to pay premium price for a pin with a couple of small changes to it. But if you don't care for the overpriced extras, leave it. Ask anyone who has had a Limited/Gold/Special edition... It's just not all that great.

Until they go to sell it, then it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and they wish they didn't have to part with it

In fact, it has less. It doesn't come with the figures on the playfield. My routed LOTR is missing Merry (or was it Pippin) on the slingshot. So I went on ebay and bought a replacement toy, but I haven't got around to making a base for it and attaching it to the slingshot plastic. I'd hate to have to do all those toys, yuck.
