Hello, I'm eager to clean up the F-14 tomcat pin I bought. It still has the original factory mylar overlay but is dirty and grimey. My big question is, do I HAVE TO USE NOVUS, or is there a more commercially available cleaner/polish etc that is suitable. I can't find NOVUS at any local hardware, cleaning product store around. Anyone ever found it at a major retailer? i.e Home Depot,Rona,Canadian Tire??
Any suggestions??? Or just order some NOVUS?
Thanks.

You can usually get Novus from plastics dealers (acrylic sheet and tube, etc), and also from some automotive wholesalers.  An alternative for cleaning grease/ old wax off playfields (although more harsh - you have to use it with more care) is Simonize Tire Cleaner with Bleche-White Product #39-0716-8 (although you apply it to cloth and rub rather than applying it directly to a playfield).

Beyond that there are other plastic cleaner/polishes, and car clear care products, and lastly a set of professional formulation swirl mark removers used in the automotive industry (similar to the Treasure Cove products), which I think I have figured out the equivalents of.  I was contemplating selling them at some point, but my store has been slow in coming.

Use this info at your own risk.

no you don't.

heck if it's mylar, windex will work fine (shoot it on the rag and then wipe) while 100% pure carnuba wax on the non mylar parts will get you going fast

I would not use Bleche Wite on a non DP playfield.  Simple Green, even Mean Green would do the job and less of a risk.  If the mylar is really dull, you may experiment with very fine grit sandpaper.  Start at 1500 grit and move up to 2000.  Then buff with Novus or TC with a high speed drill.

I think you can also get Novus from canadapinballparts.com:
