There you go... this thread in the forums is for all the bitching and moaning you want to do on whatever related to the sale of the 4 import machines.

Go crazy.

But word of advice... once you are done, it will most probably be the last we hear of that seller. Come on... we are better than that. Now I am off to cancel 4 memberships due to the content in the previous thread, and do some damage control.

Have a nice day. I know I am not.

I have decided to respond to the multiple PMs here...

Greetings to all,

Unfortunately, due to software limitations (and I must admit ignorance of my part, being very limited in my software knowledge), we cannot move a thread, and even less some content within a thread. And having 4 membership cancellations due to "unfortunate" comments done in a gratuitous fashion with a thread getting out of hand, I have opted to delete the entire content of the thread save the ad itself. A thread is now open in the forums section in order to permit any and all to post their opinions as we at MAACA have always permitted to do. I am proud and not-so-proud to say that this is only the third instance of post-deleting that I have had to do in over 4 years (tomorrow actually makes it 4 years) and I am fully prepared to accept any and all of the consequences. I want to express my most sincerest apologies to all of you for what has happened here and also for what has resulted. I sincerely hope that this has not hindered your appreciation of our website and that you continue to enjoy all of it's benefits.

Thanks you and good day to you all.

Ian L. Fitzpatrick

MAACA President

Omg I really feel like this is high school all over.
You don't have to quit because people nag you or say your an idiot it not the complete group but a few apples and people leave wow.
We have now upgraded to High school and elementary school.
Quick don’t forget to tell your mother.
Sorry i just find this gets out of hand people you dont like what somebody has to say one block him you have that function 2 ignore him.
3 don’t give a mess.

Well in a sense of fairness, to those who haven't followed the story so far, here is the last page of the thread, before being sent to the cyber trash.

Read it, if you are curious about all the commotion.

Alternatively, ignore it, if you don't care.

So, other than Jim, who's canceling their membership? I hope they reconsider, this place is still the best place to discuss and trade pinball (IMO).
Jim, please don't go, lots of people really appreciate what you've done for pinball in Canada and especially here in Ottawa. The two machines that I own I have bought from you, and am sad you're not importing machines anymore.

OK... this is one of those moments where a quip from Glen would be funny... but I think he got scared off by people with a bigger mouth than his! Considering he does it for fun, I don't know if that is funnier, or just plain scary!

OK... I am off to drink another beer.

Why should the words of one or two members mean the end of maaca? People seem to be over reacting here.

Can't we just move on and just call it a misunderstanding between a few individuals? I understand feelings were hurt, but taking sides and prematurely predicting/declaring the demise of maaca helps no one. If the argument was offline there wouldn't have been a problem, right? Am I missing something?

If you want to be angry, blame the individual(s) not the medium.

I have just been busy. At the end of the day here I had more information about what transpired above and beyond what appeared on the thread. Let's just say not everyone was completely above board and I am not pointing a finger at Jvegas other than the fact he ignored me. I'm married, so I am used to that.

As for the post I wished it had been left it up. Obviously Sparky feels the need to exercise some damage control, but I don't know why personally. What I am having a real difficult time understanding is why a member would try and override Sparky and just post the information again?

The last man that was perfect was crucified. I don't think too many of us on here need to worry about that fate.

It's all about the PMs... I got a grand total of 53 yesterday, varying from rants to insults to demands to encouragements. It's all good. And if I did have to do it again, yes, I would probably leave it. But being in a crunch and with all the angry comments coming in, I just acted.

As for the second comment... yeah... I will be quite open... that pissed me off. Especially when there was a post to write in in the forums. The fact of bringing up a personal grudge over manuals... as another member stated, that should have been mentioned in PMs, and if that person believes that there is a danger of a member getting screwed, simply PM an admin and we will look into it. Instead, it degenerated all over again. I do understand the motive behind the intervention, but it wasn't the right place to do it.

Frictions always happen in a group, it is inevitable. I have had my share myself. But as some mentioned, it's just a hobby, and I am in it to

1- have fun

and

2- help people out any way I can.

That's why I stay around and pay for all of it. But yes, every once and a while, this happens. Sucks.... but it happens.

I agree....

Few will deny that Jim is unquestionably the "mover and shaker" in this group.

I've lost count, but I'm sure he's sold well over 100 pins to various MAACA members.

He was (...and is still is... ) a HUGE asset to this community.

I understand his frustration and would feel exactly as he does given all the crap he has had to deal with
in the last little while.  (...and I don't  just mean this latest episode... )

I'm sure his absence will soon be felt as the influx of "new" games from the US dries up
and everybody starts recycling the same games over and over again.

I just hope he considers coming back to the group at later date
when he's taken a well deserved break from pinball-related dealings.

Steph

I thought it was brilliant that the page was captured and reposted. In my humble opinion, it shouldn't have been deleted in the first place and Sparky even said if he could do it again he wouldn't remove it. I just wish the first two pages of the thread had been saved as well. It's threads like that which give us glimpses into the real personalities of those involved. They should be preserved.

Maaca is an excellent community. There have been many, many friendships forged here and a few animosities as well. In the end, it's only pinball and I hope that we can try to be a little less serious about these things in the future.

He was getting fed up for a long time, that was my impression. This latest incident was probably just the last straw.

I thought it was brilliant that the page was captured and reposted.

OMG. If you could see my eyes rolling. You have to be absolutely joking. Brilliant. What a farce.

This sort of brilliance does not see the total disregard for what the admin on here is attempting to achieve. Peace and harmony. It would appear there is more interest to just stir the pot when it wasn't thier soup to begin with.

Easy to say, after the fact...

All I did was point out the fact that you were being a whiner with a huge sense of entitlement and were getting all pissy when the deal wasn't going your way. It's not really stirring the pot, just calling a spade a spade. Sorry for being Mr. Obvious.

Besides, it seems to me that you were the one doing all of the pot stirring. Let's ask Jvegas what he thinks. Wait, it might be too late for that.

Sparky, maybe you should change the name of this thread to "As the Maaca world turns" as it is turning into a soap opera and frankly it is getting boring to read peoples justifications all the time.

As Sparky has said before, PM's were created so you guys can sort out your issues "privately". Do us all a favour and resolve them privately and lets back to what is fun in this hobby.

Look if you want to just take some more space to reiterate your jab at me fine. I guess you have achieved that, but you've veered off course back to what your original comment referred to. If your going to respond with any intelligence than I suggest you read first and work within the context of the statement. If you want to make this a debate then at least stay with the current topic.

For cookes benefit the topic moved from is necro whinning? to was it the correct thing to repost the forum the admin was uncomfortable to leave up?

Which opened the door for me to take another kick at the can (or the necro as the case may be. [What the hell does your nick mean, anyway? You are the enemy of those who have a sexual attraction to dead bodies?]).

At any rate, we're clearly getting nowhere with this so let's just suffice it to say:

Why should the topic be moved?  I haven't seen you whine this much since you screwed my deal up for a Monster Bash.  I hope you are still enjoying it by the way.

As for reposting what was said?  What is the big issue?  It took the thread off the original for sale thread, which is what Sparky wanted.  And when everyone asks, for the hundredth time... "Where is Jvegas"?  There is an explanation.  As I said, I thought it was fair that people saw the events that lead to another member leaving.  Simple enough.  There is also the disclaimer that if you don't care, don't read.  You obviously riled a few feathers around here with your comments.

Of course, if you believe in censorship... here is a new flag to replace your American one:

Funny how this comes up about MB. In fact I see it to be the exact opposite. If the title is so near and dear to you Mikeman has had one readily available for some time and for much less money, I suggest you go buy it.

Well it was the MB that changed everything.  I had a deal in the works.  Sold games to finance it, only to find that it was yanked out from under me at the last minute by the original seller, due to influence from you.  Everything was aligned at that time for me.  It no longer is.  I don't have an endless supply of cash to throw around on a whim.  And of course, I don't think you really know the full story behind the whole deal.  I am just happy to know that you paid top dollar for it, much more than I would have paid.

Maybe you may want to also mention how I went out of my way to help you on a couple of occaisions and asked for nothing in return other than your friendship before you go spouting off about MB?

Glad I could make you happy. You seem to get some pleasure out of others misfortune. The price went up by $500 because of you and you also ended up with my FH which you posted most disdainfully as a rub to me. I have watched you become vendictive over this whole thing and all I can say is I am sorry. Sorry not because I did you any wrong, but sorry that you have become this way, and would still turn the other cheek and call you friend if you would only change your ways. The only thing I will not condone is your negative activity towards me.

Ok, I am done with this fueding.  I believe I have explained everything.  And yes, I feel that I was done wrong over the deal and that a deal is a deal.  The original seller should not have flip flopped (and he knows that).

I need to spend my energy elsewhere... like fixing those credit dots on my games.

Ok... am I missing something here?  YOUR FH???

Yes, maybe at one point it was YOUR Funhouse, but unless my memory is failing...  I bought that Funhouse from someone other than you, and in turn sold it to Monkeybug.  Why would Monkeybug  posting about purchasing FH bother you?  It's not like he stole it from you or anything...

Something in this post smells funny... and I think it's entitlement.

And again... if my memory serves correct here...  the whole MB mess (which by the way I just LOVE hearing the 3rd party accounts on) pretty much came down to, you guessed it... entitlement.

Moi aussi. Now Sparky can pay us our royalties for another episode and lets hope this doesn't go into syndication.

Doug, get your facts straight on FH before posting. Your entirely inaccurate and just perpetuating this for no reason and I really have no interest.

As for the MB "entitlement" issue. I distinctly remember you stating you made a error at the time because you had too many balls in the air and didn't follow a directive you were given with the sale. I think the issue stemmed entirely from that. Now lets let it lie.

What I would like to clarify with all this is the "PM sent" and contacting a seller before another member issue. Are we still honoring the sequence of PM's sent from MACCA member to member? I was, and maybe what you term "sense of entitlement" is my foolish notion that we had some sort of gentlemens agreement in place between the membership with that. If we aren't then I think it should be made clear, because I do stand in line and do put people in line with that system. That system in effect gives the sense that you are "entitled" to refuse before the next person that responded. If that isn't the case I would really like to know because I would not wait in line, nor give priority then and also would not anticipate anyone else to.

Again this is another subject I think needs to be addressed. I know many will sit on the sidelines and let some of us hash out these difficult issues, but I think for the longevity of the forum we need to clarify some of the ground rules to be able to work together harmoniously.

So now you're calling me a liar?  Please refresh my memory as I seem to be missing some of your facts.  Both the person I bought YOUR FH from and I have discussed the sale of that game (just last night actually), and at no time were we under the impression we had to sell it back to you. (or that you even wanted it back)

As for my side of the MB deal let me make this perfectly clear right here right now...  It was NEVER a stipulation of the original deal I made with the owner that I had to sell the game to anyone specific, most notably you.  After the deal was done it was mentioned that if I was going to sell MB that you would buy it, but by that point I already had a buyer.  It was after that point all hell broke lose with the 'entitlement', you made everyone uncomfortable about the whole situation (seems to be the common denominator here don't you think?), and the game was pulled back out of my bulk purchase and sold to you.

It has nothing to do with perpetuating anything, and everything to do with speaking up when I have something to say. (If I was really here to stir the pot I would have jumped into the foray a lot sooner)

I'm not completely clear on what's transpired here over the last couple days, but by the smell of it, I get the idea.

My thoughts FWIW:

1.  MAACA is great because it's generally a more mature version of RGP.  However, as with RGP, I feel MAACA should not be censored when the weather gets rough (as will happen from time to time).  Leaving posts as written, will make it easier to clear up conflict in the long run, and allow those not involved to form their own opinions on any given situation as well as the personalities involved.

2.  MAACA is great because I believe - for the most part - just about any of the regular posters would be willing to go out of their way to assist any other member with just about anything within reason.  I have had the opportunity to meet a few people here - I'm generally a good judge of character - and would trust them myself.

3.  The most important thing to remember:  Collecting/Restoring/Repairing/Reselling anything, especially pins and vids certainly is a preoccupation or passion to most.  This passion can be extremely competitive at times, regardless of your motivation in the hobby, and as with everything in life, there can only be one "winner" (don't get picky - you know what I mean).  When there are multiple parties involved, there are going to be more unhappy persons than happy ones - it's simple math.  How you conduct business is certainly a character mirror, and it's up to you how you want to appear to the world, but having said that, rarely do the meek inherit the pinballs when there's a deal to be had.

So, coming from a member who lurks more than posts, I summarize by saying conflict will happen.  It needs to play out on it's own.  Posts need to stand as entered and as intended or else we risk the monkey business that goes on with Aussie Arcade.  I'm not trying to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, or point any fingers whatsoever but at the end of the day I guarantee each of the parties involved has more important issues in their lives outside of whatever could possibly transpire here.  Most of those can't be deleted.

OK... so here is a breakdown:

Got PMed massively to lock the thread. So I locked it.

Got PMed to change the title due to it getting out of hand, but make it humorous. So I did.

Got PMed to unlock the thread as it is interpreted as censorship. So I unlocked it.

Got PMed to change the thread title as some found the humorous one offensive. So I renamed it as generically as possible.

This is the last time I intervene on this thread. In fact, I am so sick and tired of it all, I am even considering leaving altogether. 109 PMs in less than 3 days... good grief.

Come on guys... try to keep it civilized at least. No one wins by dishing out your dirty laundry in public. If you have an issue with someone, keep it private. Deal with the other person directly. I usually works out better that way anyways.

Well, that is ridiculous.  Take a break and leave this place for a few days, it's not worth getting stressed over brother and she'll still be here when you return.  Remember there's no way to please everyone.  It's nice to try and I know I feel good when I do try, but it's not doable. I know.

Things to remember about MAACA in no particular order

1) Its free
2) it is free
3) It really is free
4) Sparky makes no money from MAACA
5) In general you get what you put out
6) If you dish it out, expect to get it back
7) Why should Sparky get stressed about issues that are of no concern to him
In reality, MAACA can be shut down way faster than it was put up
9) If your going to report something or someone, state only the facts, not opinions
10) Add more here

Well Ian, I am sorry you have had so much stress over this all.

For me, its been something that has been private for a long time.  Something that finally became public.  It has been a long time coming and it finally boiled over.

And like I said I said to Necro (both here and in private), I am going to drop it.  But I don't understand why people would get so upset on an open forum to lock it?

People are people, no one is perfect.  I think part of the problem is also the beauty of the internet. Because of the nature of message boards, you're not in front of the dude you're "talking" to, so there's less of the built in "pause" that you have when you talk to someone.  That's not said as completely bad, it's cool that people can be a bit more honest then they are in RL, but sometimes, it's not fun to be at the end of the honesty you know?

At the end of the day, all this is just opinions, and not worth getting worked over.  Easy to say, not easy to do when you care a lot about something. The desire to "fix" what appears to be broken is too great to ignore (which I gather is why Sparky is Sparky, you know?).

Quoted from Menace

So now you're calling me a liar?

No.

I know there was a lot going on with that large purchase you made and during that whole transaction there were a lot of negotiations taking place and there may have been some confusion. Unfortunately I got conflicting information and while trying to work through the issues the communications by one party ended making it impossible to reconcile the situation any further between all parties. If you wish I can resend you privately the PM from back at that time which I most clearly stated the deep concerns I had with the situation prior to proceeding and looking for avenues to rectify a situation that I have come to believe neither you or I created back at that time in Feb of 2007. I would prefer not to rehash the unpleasant experience but if you wish I will privately re-send you the PM regarding it to refresh your memory. Unfortunately I do not have a record of all correspondence regarding this subject as some of it was conducted on mIRC which I no longer have access to, but the PM clearly states my concerns.

If you wish to discuss this any further I would be willing to privately. If you wish to publicly I have issue with that now as I stated to Mbug I wanted to end this. I would just rather not re-live it any further. What happened is water under the bridge now.

What i think of the issue of Sparky Pm is.
Where all adults why do we have to be babies.
if you don’t like somebody on the forum and pm sparky he should be banned thats not correct.
Ignore them you have the right.
Personally banning or locking of threads should be for 2 things one Spammer from other sites or scam artist.
Censorship should be done by us.
f*** we can all moderate our self Jesus.
I like sparky allot i find the guy does allot for us but all we do to him is mess on him.
While where at it we might as well grab a bag of dog crap place it in paper bag and a light it on fire ring door bell and run.
Basically that's what we do to him when we mass a pm him for stupid mess.
I have always promoted this site love this site recommend it to people.
But what gone on for 3 days is shameful i would not want to recommend anybody to come here at this time because man they would think where crazy.
Well we sort of are we have that crazy coin op bug and we all love it lets keep it that way.

Life is like Pinball!! You never know where you will bounce or where your going but sometimes you have that one amazing shot But on the other hand you have those darn gutter ball where you just get frustrated.

there is a reason why i have cooled my jets and sold stuff off. not out of this hobby but maybe in the future it can be a hobby again for me. one thing from this hobby is that i made some great friends and i will like to keep them more than any game. this is my point of view only.

Well it seems that (almost) everything has been said.  I have made comments, Necro has made his comments, Menace has made his comments.  Surprisingly absent is the fourth MAACA person who was involved in these sour deals, the original seller.  It would be nice to hear their side, then we can all close this chapter for good and move on.

Naw...to properly close this chapter we'd have to call in the Chinese...they do a heck of a job and they'd even throw 3000 drummers, 8000 contortionists, 10 000 KGs of fireworks and some live dinosaurs...

Why does umlaut have an umlaut?

Putting an umlaut (an actual umlaut, not a diaresis) on any of the letters in the word would alter its pronunciation… umlaut is pronounced OOOM-lowt. putting an umlaut on, for example, the first U would result in the pronunciation EIUM-lowt (roughly).
so, there’s NO umlaut on an umlaut, because there doesn’t need to be one

I made all the comments I had to make about my part of the story. No use saying anything else, I can say that I pretty much like all MAACA members and I do not want to say a single word against anyone. Claude

I was not referring to you Claude.  I was referring to the 4th member that was involved in that whole screwed up deal with Necro, menace and myself last year.

WOW...all I can say is, I am sooo glad I didn't bring a computer with me on vacation...must go back to Disney in my head after reading all this... mumbling... It's a small world afterall.... ZipadeeDooda ZippedyAy....

I have had minor beefs with some people in MAACA, as surely as they have with me. I think we all think our behaviour is above board, but our own vision may not be shared.

It's interesting, and I've made the observation here before that people tend to keep their mouths shut about opinions of others here in case it sours a future deal or turns the "mob" against us (i.e. don't burn bridges) but keeping that all pent up for so long can lead to an explosion of discontent (or at least the need to express it).

I think  many here dream of "dream deals." Being within grasp and then failing can be very frustrating, no matter how fleeting the dream actually is. For some of us this is a hobby where the "chase" is often more gratifying than the "catch".

I think it's pretty commonplace for us to overspend and be on the defensive to our spouses, and otherwise vulnerable to criticism about our hobby.

I think it's too common that some of us go through "binges" and "purges" based on our finances or content/discontent with the rabble rousers.

As with all business dealings, things go sour, but when they go sour amongst addicts, friends and family, they go especially sour.

From one pot to the other kettles: addicted people can easily rationalize their behaviour, and friends can easily turn to enemies (if only briefly) when the addict needs their fix.  I am perhaps just as guilty, but I'm not certain why we need to amplify each others pain, and tease the wounds, does it make us feel more rational?
