Hi everyone. I just added a new game to my collection last week and thought it would be fun to let everyone take a shot at finding out what game I'm talking about.... I'll start with 2 pics of the boards, then I'll add another pic if no one can find out, and another, and another, and so on, until someone finds out the game....
I'll give something like a flyer or a pinball poster to the winner...Not sure yet....
well you never put a limit on the how many answers we could give: Barracora Black Knight Cosmic Gunfight Defender Firepower II Hyperball Joust Jungle Lord Laser Cue Pharaoh Solar Fire Star Light Time Fantasy Varkon Warlok
You should submit a few pics to ipdb.org to complete their set.
Cheers, - Sylvain.
Looking for 1966 Bally Capersville, 1967 Bally The Wiggler, 1981 Stern Viper, 1986 Pinstar Gamatron, 1986 Williams Grand Lizard, 1991 Williams Bride of Pinbot, and a few others. Cash or some trades available. Could also repair a machine of yours +/-$ if needed, in exchange for one machine on my want list, non-working/unshopped welcome!
Boy! You guys are hard to trick..... Please PM me your address tinyrodent and I'll send you a mint flyer.... My real user name is ALJO, but under that user name everyone would of guessed what the game was.... More pics of my new game.... I love it, I was surprised how challenging and hard the game is to beat..... This is definitely the first game to have optos, at least 35 of them on this game.... Now that I own the game, I understand why they never produced it, it's very complex and producing this game would of been too expensive....
I found this on RGP about the game.... Here's a little history on Rat Race I pulled from RGP 1997 era
Question: In an old issue of "Video Games" magazine, I saw a reference to a Williams game called Rat Race. Tell me more about it.
Answer: Everyone knows Williams is far and away the most innovative company in the solar system (ahem), and Rat Race was just another one of those attempts at doing something radically different. Remember, this was the era of Joust pinball, Hyperball, and Varkon! Rat Race was housed in a cabinet similar to that of Joust pinball, but was not a head-to-head game like Joust. Instead, one or two players took turns working the controls of what could best be described as a giant Labyrinth game.
Using joysticks that made the play surface tilt in the X- and Y- axes, the player tried to use gravity and momentum to maneuver the steel ball into and through various play areas. In addition to the physical elements of the maze sections, there were software-controlled lights used to create different goals for the sections as play progressed. As is evident from the flyer for the game (thoughtfully provided by Uncle Willy at http://www.wms.com/williams/ww/gallery) quite a bit of thought went into the design.
Rat Race was designed by Barry Oursler, from an idea by Steve Kordek. The artwork was by Pam Erickson. All the clues Uncle Willy can find point to Dave Rzepka as the programmer, but he can't be 100% sure about that one. The prototype run of Rate Race consisted of 10 games, but it never entered production. Apparently the joystick-controlled motor system for tilting the playfield was extremely complicated and expensive, and didn't provide the kind of precise control necessary to play the game well. Uncle Willy has heard that some of those 10 prototype games do still exist in private hands, but there isn't one lurking around Williams anywhere.
Rat Race was one of many games at Pinball Fantasy 97. The common consensus is that if a ticket dispenser were slapped in it it would do very well on location. A fun game to play but not very "deep".[sub][/sub]
That's unique alright. Any reason for the multiple board hacks from the factory?
Those light boards aren't even the traditional red proto circuit boards. They really look like homemade boards.
There are 6 light boards that also have optos on them. As for the multiple factory hacks, I have no idea why they did this. IMO they had to hack them because those boards are probably Joust boards. Just a guess

... Claude did ask me prior to doing it. No worries. It's not the case I mentioned in that thread. He knew that if he posted with his main account, peiople would guess right away. I thought it was a fun idea and went with it. I will close the duplicate account in a few days.
