Well, being from the buzzing Metroplois of Labrador City, NF we only had 2 arcades (the Casino and The Fun Machine) but I remember them both very well. I used to let the owner and manager in for free at the local movie theatre where I worked and they let me play pins and vids for free (and let me stay after hours). It was great, al those mispent hours of my youth.
Pins owned: Bally - Twilight Zone (1993) Williams - Star Trek The Next Generation (1993) Bally - Scared Stiff (1996) Stern - Lord of the Rings (2004)
Also forgot some: The Recreatheque had a large arcade in the old days. Also, (I'm starting to feel old now..) there was a huge arcade at Belmont Park where I worked in the summers starting at the young age of 13.. They had old classics and woodrails in the late seventies/early eighties up until it closed down sometime in the eighties... Anybody remember Belmont Park?
I didn't get the chance to frequent the arcades as a kid. For my birthday we would usually go to the bowling alleys which would have an vid or two. At some point that idea got old and I suggested an arcade. So:
Video Invasion on Bathurst St. Toronto.
I most vividly remember T2 (pin and vid), Whirlwind, TMNT (vid), Smash TV, Rampage and a spy hunter in the back. There were more for sure but those were the ones that I remember well.
There was also a 7-11 near my place that had an Atari hard driving that I always put a quarter in every time I picked up a slurpie.
In Toronto Downtown (Eaton Centre area) Funland (still exists but really really run down) Gameland Pinball Spot
Anyone from Toronto remember the name of that one on the East side of Yonge, that was down a set of stairs into the basement of a storefront, not far from the Eaton Centre? I used to go there a fair bit, around 1980 or so. A real dumpy place, but they had at least 100 pins, mostly EM's, and some early SS's crammed in. They even multiples of some titles, like Royal Flush. It may have have been called "Pinball Spot", but I'm not sure if this was the one. There was many street level arcades on Yonge at the time.
There was a little narrow arcade between Laurier and Slater on the east side. You'd think I'd remember the name as thats the block where I've had a store for 25 years is, but I don't! I used to play there a TON in the 80's.
My best memories are in the States...the Aladdins Castle and Dream Machine arcades that were in pretty much every mall. My family used to drive across the States every summer, so I saw LOTS of them. In the late '70's and 80's we always went to the coast of Maine, and to Weirs Beach, NH. Funspot USA near Weirs Beach was great, as were the arcades on the beach. And Maine...the arcades on the piers at Wells Beach and York Beach were great. 2 years ago when I went to pick-up games in Maine, I made a sidetrip to York Beach, and the big Fun-O-Rama was still there. They actually had quite a few Pins, incl TAF and AFM. I remember back in the '70's each time we'd stop at a campground, my brother and I would INSIST that it had a "rec hall" with Pins. My father would actually let us check that out before we'd decide to stay!!!

Thats was it for sure...I think its a Shawarma place now! The shapes of a few of the stores on the block have changed a bit, so its hard to remember what was what. My store was at 139 from '81-94, and its now a Quiznos. I've been at 149 from '94- now. When I first opened that store, there was a great burger place called Mics on the corner, where the Starbucks is now.

Squid
Centigrade 37 ... LOTR in da House ... a Barracora ....... Spidey ... RFM
My memory from the late 70s early 80s was at Galerie d'Anjou, a place called Le Jeu. Had probably 10-12 pinballs in the back, (Black knight, Gorgar I remember clearly) & Defender, Stargate, Pacman, centipede and various videos in front. Red carpet, mirrors and a grumpy owner giving out the change in his office in the back. And the smoke... was enough to give a twelve year old the cancer....
Currently Owning: LOTR, SM Black Looking for: DE Star Wars
